Network Access Control Engineer

The Department of Administration's (Admin) Office of Technology and Information Services (OTIS) is the state’s central provider of IT services to state government agencies.

We are growing and now is a great time to join State Government! We are seeking a talented Network Access Control (NAC) Engineer to join our team.

This role is an integral part of our Network Services team. In this role you will be instrumental in fortifying the security framework that underpins our agency network.

You will directly contribute to the reliability and resilience of our IT infrastructure by implementing network access controls leveraging NAC technologies and zero-trust models.

You will monitor traffic and ensure only authorized users and devices gain access to our network, thereby minimizing risks of breaches and enhancing overall organizational trust.

As a valued team member, you will be focusing on compliance to our security standards and regulations, ultimately enhancing our reputation as a secure and innovative company.

This position is on site in Columbia, SC


Responsibilities of the NAC Engineer:
  • Policy Design & Enforcement: Develop and maintain comprehensive NAC policies, including guest access and compliance checks for personal and IoT devices.
  • System Implementation: Deploy, configure, and maintain NAC solutions (e.g., Cisco ISE, Meraki Secure Access Manager, Aruba ClearPass, Forescout or equivalent).
  • Security Monitoring and Authentication Management: Analyze network traffic, device behavior, and security postures to identify risks and prevent unauthorized access. Implement and manage 802.1X authentication, RADIUS, and TACACS+ protocols.
  • Incident Response & Troubleshooting: Respond to network security incidents and troubleshoot connectivity issues related to security policies.
  • Documentation: Create detailed documentation, network diagrams, and change histories for all security configurations.
  • Install, configure, and troubleshoot network devices to ensure quality services are delivered to state and local governments. Document all changes to network equipment using appropriate tools. Monitor network performance and utilization with available tools.

Requirements

  • A bachelor's degree in information technology systems, computer science, or a related field and experience in information technology systems or a related area.
  • Two (2) or more years of experience in network security, specifically with NAC technologies.
  • Must have technical knowledge: proficiency in network protocols (TCP/IP), firewalls, and segmentation.
  • Hands-on experience with Cisco ISE, Aruba ClearPass, or similar platforms is required.
Additional Requirements:
  • Must have the ability to design, implement and manage security policies to control, authenticate, and audit user and device access to agency networks.
  • Demonstrable experience in configuring and managing Cisco NAC using ISE, Meraki Secure Access Manager or similar NAC platforms like Aruba ClearPass or Forescout, with a strong grasp of zero-trust networking concepts.
  • Ability to train, direct, and coordinate work of a small group of teammates.
  • Ability to present technical and non-technical reports in a clear and concise manner.
  • Ability to establish effective working relationships with vendors, management staff, and users.
  • Position may require employee to work evenings and weekends.
  • Position may be required to report to work during emergency situations.

Qualifications

  • Relevant industry certifications such as CCNA Security, or Aruba Certified ClearPass Expert preferred.
