Note: Actual salary includes locality pay (15-40%+ depending on location).
This job involves managing and coordinating the national program for fire equipment used by the Forest Service, including planning, oversight of supply caches, and working with other agencies on wildfire-related needs.
A good fit would be someone with experience in program management, especially in emergency or fire services, who enjoys collaborating across teams and analyzing ways to improve operations.

This position is within the Washington Office Fire and Aviation Management (WO-FAM) AD Operations unit.
The position has responsibility for a number of equipment program segments within the Aviation and Operations organization that require considerable planning and coordination.

Specialized Experience Requirement: GS-11: Applicants must have one year equivalent to GS-09.
Specialized experience is defined as three or more of the following: Assisted with identifying issues and developing recommendations for the fire equipment program; and/or With guidance, advised the supervisory chain on administrative, technical, and budget issues pertaining to or impacting the fire equipment program; and/or Provided input on new equipment development based on subject matter expertise; and/or Collaborated and build consensus with interagency partners.
-OR- Ph.D.
or equivalent doctoral degree OR 3 full years of progressively higher level graduate education leading to such a degree OR LL.M., -OR- An appropriate combination of specialized experience and graduate level education (beyond what is required for a master's degree, i.e., more than 36 semester hours leading to a Ph.D.
GS-12: Applicants must have one year equivalent to GS-11.
Specialized experience is defined as three or more of the following: Identified issues and developed recommendations for the fire equipment program; and/or Advise the supervisory chain on administrative, technical, and budget issues pertaining to or impacting the fire equipment program; and/or Reviewed, provided, and recommended input on new equipment development based on subject matter expertise; and/or Collaborated and build relationships and consensus with interagency partners.
Experience refers to paid and unpaid experience, including volunteer work done through National Service programs (e.g., Peace Corps, AmeriCorps) and other organizations (e.g., professional; philanthropic; religious; spiritual; community, student, social).
Volunteer work helps build critical competencies, knowledge, and skills and can provide valuable training and experience that translates directly to paid employment.
