Job Description

Summary

This job involves driving buses and various trucks to transport passengers and materials around Fort Benning and nearby areas, including loading cargo safely and performing basic vehicle maintenance.

Full Job Description

This position is located at the Recycling Center which is a part of the Fort Benning Family & Morale, Welfare and Recreation (MWR). Incentives and Bonuses Incentives and bonuses will not be paid.

A qualified candidate must possess the following: High school diploma or General Equivalency Diploma.

Ability to communicate in English at a level to assure the duties described can be accomplished in a safe and satisfactory manner. Demonstrated skills in successfully operating standard tools.

Requires a valid state driver's license to operate a 15 passenger vehicle, OR Requires a commercial drivers license (CDL) with no restrictions to operate a 24 passenger vehicle. Major Duties:

  • Drives passenger buses regardless of gross vehicle weight and various types of trucks such as platform trucks, van trucks, stake trucks, dump trucks, and trash removal trucks weighing from 26,000 to 32,000 pounds on long or short hauls.
  • Hauls may take place on the installation, public roads, and city streets in all types of traffic conditions. Assists with loading and unloading cargo and materials.
  • Assists with loading and unloading cargo and materials. Ensures vehicle is not loaded beyond the rated capacity by checking cargo papers and by visual observation.

  • Fills out driver's accident report in case of accident. Performs driver's maintenance in accordance with established rules and regulations.
