This job involves helping transport deceased individuals from scenes or hospitals to the coroner's office, assisting with autopsies by preparing bodies and taking x-rays, and maintaining a clean and secure environment while following strict procedures.
It's a hands-on role in a forensic setting that requires sensitivity and attention to detail.
A good fit would be someone with experience in mortuary or healthcare transport who is comfortable working independently with deceased persons and values confidentiality and safety.
Agency Summary
The purpose and mission of the Marion County Coroner’s agency is to investigate and determine a person’s cause and manner of death, particularly in cases when the individual died under unusual circumstances.
The office consoles families, advocates for the deceased, and gives information to police and courts to prosecute suspected criminals.
The agency strives to cultivate a productive, collaborative, and compliant work environment in order for our workforce to meet the needs of the citizens of Indianapolis and Marion County.
High school diploma or GED required and one (1) year of experience in mortuary services, hospital transport, or related field. Must possess a valid Driver’s License.
The position is required to learn and understand death investigations and forensic autopsies as it relates to Indiana Coroner law.
Must understand medical terminology, body anatomy, and the importance of national standards related to forensic standards in forensic autopsies. Must be able to communicate effectively with others.
An associate degree in related health care or forensic field is preferred.
