Full Job Description

This vacancy is for a GS - 0545 - 7, Military Pay Technician located in the Department of Homeland Security, U.S. Coast Guard, PPC RETIREE and ANNUITANT SERVICES BRANCH in TOPEKA, Kansas.

To qualify at the GS-7 grade level, your resume must demonstrate at least one (1) full year of specialized experience equivalent to at least the GS-6 grade level in the federal sector.

Specialized experience is experience that has equipped you with the ability, skill, and knowledge to successfully perform the duties of this position and is typically in or related to this line of work.

Examples of specialized experience include performing the following types of tasks on a regular basis.

Analyzing and resolving intricate pay-related concerns for retired and annuitant military members, ensuring all actions adhere to relevant laws and policies.

Reviewing and updating financial records and system entries to confirm compliance with statutory requirements and accuracy of data.

Navigating automated payroll platforms to investigate account histories, identify discrepancies, and apply appropriate pay rates.

Addressing and correcting errors in payroll accounts that cannot be resolved through standard automated processes.

Determining pay entitlements and processing transactions to appropriately adjust members' financial accounts.

Providing thorough responses to inquiries from customers regarding payroll and personnel matters, ensuring clarity and accuracy in communications.

Confirming the precision of payroll calculations and the inclusion of correct accounting information in all transactions.

You will serve as a/an Military Pay Technician and be responsible for or reviewing and processing complex military pay actions, ensuring accuracy and compliance with federal regulations for retired and annuitant pay accounts..

Being a Coast Guard civilian makes you a valuable member of the Coast Guard team.

Typical work assignments include: Review and resolve complicated pay problems for retired and annuitant military personnel using a variety of techniques.

Verify and update system modules and indebtedness transactions to ensure compliance with applicable statutes and regulations.

Utilize automated payroll systems to research accounts, determine necessary adjustments, and calculate rates of pay.

Process account discrepancies to correct payroll accounts that cannot be updated through automated systems.

Calculate pay entitlements and input transactions to accurately credit or debit members' pay accounts. Respond to routine and complex inquiries from customers regarding payroll and personnel matters.

Ensure all transactions are mathematically accurate and contain proper accounting data in accordance with federal laws.

Mandatory training is required which must be successfully completed and other training may occur as necessary for success in the position.
