We are seeking a Mental Health Professional I with the PATH Program who is motivated to help individuals and families navigate life's challenges and achieve long-term wellness. The position is located at the SC Department of Behavioral Health and Developmental Disabilities (DBHDD) - Office of Mental Health, Waccamaw Center for Mental Health, 164 Waccamaw Medical Park Drive, Conway, SC 29526.

This position MAY be eligible for SCOMH Student Loan Repayment to cover some of the cost of your outstanding loan(s) balance associated with the completion of a healthcare degree that is relevant to the appliable position.

As the Mental Health Professional I with the PATH Program, you will be under the general supervision of the Ancillary Services Director and will provide patient assessments and counseling to the population of homeless individuals and families who are directly affected by mental illness and/or co-occurring disorders in the Waccamaw Center Homeless/Housing Program. Develop treatments plans in accordance with patients, family and treatment team. Assist with treatment scheduling and meetings and help patients in gaining appropriate services, consults with local agencies, organization and human service providers. Position works outside of a standard office and primarily in the community. Position is considered essential and may be called back during crisis/disasters/emergencies.

Responsibilities for the Mental Health Professional I Include:

  • Will assist clients in obtaining and maintain safe, decent and affordable housing. Enters contact data into Homeless Management Information System (HMIS) of South Carolina.
  • Staff will contact a minimum of 150 homeless clients, 105 of those contacted will be literally homeless with at least 100 patients enrolled in the PATH Program on an annual basis.
  • Provide general mental health, substance abuse and psychosocial assessments in identified local shelters, emergency rooms, probate court and criminal justice systems, A&D Commission, and other identified sites.
  • Acts as a liaison between the homeless/housing program and other helping agencies. Assists in facilitating the purchase of supplies for homeless clients. Attends local mental health center staff meetings Attends individual and group supervision meetings.
  • Maintain documentation of charts and other records in accordance with the Federal, State, Local, SCDMH, WCMH, QA, Corporate Compliance and CARF standards.
  • Ability to establish and maintain working relationships with client, families and representatives of other professional disciplines.
  • Ability to communicate effectively. Employee will work in the Conway Clinic in the Housing/Homeless Program.
  • Bending, lifting, walking, standing and hearing a normal volume.
  • Perform other related duties as required by Supervisor and Executive Director.

Requirements

  • A master's degree in guidance, counseling or social services is required.
  • Must meet OMH credentialing requirements which include specific graduate course work including Psychopathology/Psychopathology Diagnostics/Clinica Assessments - Practice with Family Therapy (DSM) and Medical Ethics.

Qualifications

  • Bilingual abilities in English and Spanish (or another language) are a plus.
  • Experience working with an adult population in a community mental health setting.
  • Knowledge of the scope and range of services provided in a comprehensive community mental health program serving adults and understanding the unique treatment needs of this population.
