Job Description

Summary

This job is for a teacher's assistant in a Head Start program, where you'll help support young children's learning and growth in a classroom setting, assist with daily activities like meals and health routines, and ensure their safety indoors and out.

It's a full-time role with benefits, ideal for someone patient and caring who enjoys working with preschool-aged kids and is willing to pursue further training in early childhood education.

A good fit would be an entry-level candidate with some experience around children and a commitment to community service.

Key Requirements

  • High school diploma or GED, recognized by the State of Tennessee
  • Willingness to enroll in a CDA (Child Development Associate) Program
  • Valid Driver's License
  • Previous work experience with young children (preferred)
  • CDA credential or Associate's degree in Early Childhood Education (preferred)
  • Ability to pass extensive background checks and random drug tests
  • Residency in Tennessee or willingness to become a resident within six months

This Full-Time, Non-Civil service position in the Head Start program located with the Metropolitan Action Commission includes medical, dental, pension and other insurance benefits.

Work hours: 7:00 AM - 3:00 PM

***Extensive Background Checks and random drug tests are performed on applicants for this position with MAC.

Requirements

Assist classroom teacherServe as a bus monitorHelp children develop socially, intellectually, physically, and emotionallyPlan, document, and implement daily lesson plans and special activitiesPerform tasks associated with the education component and assure confidentialityMaintain proper supervision of children at all times indoors and outdoorsDocument and implement integration of component events in the classroom (i.e., handwashing, toileting, tooth brushing, preparing children for health services and community visits)Report any children concerns to the (assigned) Parent, Family, Community,and Engagement Advocate Report suspected child abuse or neglect to the immediate supervisorInsure daily implementation of the family style food serviceSupport and assist volunteers serving in the education programAssume other task-related duties as requested Qualifications High school diploma or GED and willing to be enrolled in a CDA Program.

Valid Driver License.***High School Diploma or General Education Equivalent must be accepted by the State of Tennessee and recognized by a higher education accreditor.***Candidates with accreditations earned in a foreign institute are encouraged to apply.Note: Per Metro Ordinance No.
