Summary

This job involves working as a front-line support in a military medical clinic, where you'll schedule patient appointments, handle walk-ins and emergencies to keep things running smoothly, and assist with basic patient information and referrals.

It's ideal for someone with customer service experience in a healthcare or office setting who is organized, good at multitasking, and comfortable using computers.

Entry-level candidates with relevant education or volunteer work in similar roles would fit well.

About the Position: This position is located at 81st Medical Group, Keesler Air Force Base in Biloxi, Mississippi.

This is a Direct Hire Solicitation Who May Apply: US Citizens In order to qualify, you must meet the education and/or experience requirements described below.

Experience refers to paid and unpaid experience, including volunteer work done through National Service programs (e.g., Peace Corps, AmeriCorps) and other organizations (e.g., professional; philanthropic; religious; spiritual; community; student; social).

You will receive credit for all qualifying experience, including volunteer experience.

Your resume must clearly describe your relevant experience; if qualifying based on education, your transcripts will be required as part of your application.

Specialized Experience: One year of specialized experience which includes scheduling patient and/or coordinating provider appointments; utilizing office automation software to enter or retrieve data; and performing receptionist duties.

This definition of specialized experience is typical of work performed at the next lower grade/level position in the federal service (GS-04).

OR Education: Four years of education above the high school level obtained in an accredited business, secretarial or technical school, junior college, college or university.

OR Combination of Education and Experience: A combination of education and experience may be used to qualify for this position as long as the computed percentage of the requirements is at least 100%.

To compute the percentage of the requirements, divide your total months of experience by 12. Then divide your semester hours of education beyond two years (total semester hours minus 60) by 60.

Add the two percentages. Proficiency Required: This position requires a qualified typist. A qualified typist can type 40 words per minute based on a 5 minute sample with three or fewer errors.

Major Duties:

  • Coordinate patient scheduling activities of the medical facility to ensure a smooth flow of the daily services.
  • Resolve problems that arise from late appointments, emergencies, or walk-ins that could delay scheduled patients being seen in a timely manner.
  • Interview patients who request medical examination/treatment to obtain pertinent information.
  • Review documentation to obtain additional information and determine eligibility for treatment.
  • Refer information on patients needing emergency care to appropriate technician, nurse and/or physician.
  • Arrange for patient consultations with other departments/facilities for such services as electrocardiograms, physical therapy, x-rays, and laboratory tests.
  • Respond to requests for non-technical information on such subjects as hours of operation, how to complete various medical forms, and locations of other medical departments/facilities.
  • Generate documents/reports using the automated system and software.
