Job Description
Summary
This temporary medical consultant role involves advising staff on disability benefit claims through consultations, helping evaluate and decide cases for people seeking benefits in South Carolina.
It's a part-time position up to 40 hours per week, based in locations like Columbia, Greenville, and Charleston, working for the state's Vocational Rehabilitation Department.
A good fit would be a licensed doctor with experience in medicine who is interested in disability assessments and willing to undergo federal background checks and training.
Key Requirements
- Graduate of an approved medical school with an MD or DO degree
- Licensed by the South Carolina Board of Medical Examiners
- Experience in medical practice, including completion of internship

- Completion of full training in Social Security policies and Disability Determination Services procedures
- Successful completion of a federal background investigation and suitability determination by the Social Security Administration

Requirements
- Graduate of approved medical school with degree of MD or DO and licensed by the SC Board of Medical Examiners; experience in practice of medicine through internship completion.
Individuals selected for positions with the South Carolina Vocational Rehabilitation Department's Disability Determination Service (DDS) will go through a complete federal background investigation. A suitability determination by the Social Security Administration is necessary to determine whether an employee can be issued credentials in order to have access to Social Security disability data, records, and systems.
Qualifications
- Must complete full training in Social Security policies and procedures administered by Disability Determination Services.
