About the Position: You will decontaminate, prepare, sterilize, store, and issue the full range of sterile dental/medical supplies and equipment used in a Dental Clinic.

Experience refers to paid and unpaid experience, including volunteer work done through National Service programs (e.g., Peace Corps, AmeriCorps) and other organizations (e.g., professional; philanthropic; religious; spiritual; community; student; social).

You will receive credit for all qualifying experience, including volunteer experience.

Specialized Experience: One year of specialized experience equivalent to the GS-05 level in the Federal Service, involving performing quality assurance; testing, decontaminating, and sterilizing surgical equipment; assembling, packaging, and inspecting surgical instruments; and conducting inventory of all sterile supply items to ensure adequate stock and proper inspection prior to use.

Major Duties:

  • Perform daily quality assurance testing on all equipment used in the cleaning and sterilization of surgical instruments
  • Prepare contaminated surgical items for sterilization procedures.
  • Test, flush and clean, laparoscopic instruments’ insulation and suction ports.
  • Package surgical items individually (e.g., scissors, tubing, gauze) or assembled into trays and sets.
  • Conduct equipment testing of surgical instruments to ensure operational efficiency and surgical precision
  • Package instruments based on the sterilization method
  • Select and arrange instruments on tray or pan in a logical manner
  • Conduct inventory of sterilized trays
  • Examines items and instruments for damage, deterioration or imperfection
