Job Description

Summary

This job involves using ultrasound technology to scan pregnant women and their babies, focusing on detecting potential health issues in high-risk cases, and helping doctors with related medical procedures.

It also includes maintaining equipment and training other staff at a military hospital in Germany.

Full Job Description

This position is located at the Landstuhl Regional Medical Center, Department of Obstetrics and Gynecology, Germany.

Sonographers will perform a variety of complex ultrasound examinations on obstetric, fetal, and gynecological patients to facilitate the diagnosis and treatment of structural and functional abnormalities.

This includes fetal echocardiography, genetic ultrasound, maternal/fetal vascular studies, and 2D/3D/4D imaging. They will also assist in invasive procedures like amniocentesis

Specialized Experience: Specialized experience is defined as performing a wide range of complex ultrasound examinations, with a primary focus on obstetric, fetal, and gynecologic patients.

This includes assisting physicians in the diagnosis and management of structural and functional abnormalities.

This definition of specialized experience is typical of work performed at the next lower grade/level position in the federal service GS-07.

Some federal jobs allow you to substitute your education for the required experience in order to qualify.

For this job, you must meet the qualification requirement using experience alone-no substitution of education for experience is permitted.

License/Certification: For this position a Registered Diagnostic Medical Sonographers License for Obstetrics and Gynecology is required. RDMS Fetal Echocardiography certification is preferred.

Major Duties:

  • Perform examinations which are performed on high-risk obstetric patients who have a high risk of having fetal abnormalities.
  • Helps to develop and maintain images and presentations for obstetricians and ultrasound technicians in techniques of maternal-fetal ultrasound.
  • Performs operator level maintenance and care of equipment.
  • Provides ongoing training in obstetric ultrasound to the other sonographers at the hospital.
