Job Description

Summary

This job involves providing emergency medical care and routine health services to incarcerated individuals at the Utah State Correctional Facility, working closely with medical staff and correctional officers.

It requires responding to urgent situations, performing assessments, administering treatments like wound care and vital signs checks, and maintaining supplies in a 24/7 environment with rotating shifts.

A good fit would be a certified EMT who is calm under pressure, physically fit, and comfortable working in a secure correctional setting.

Key Requirements

  • Valid Emergency Medical Technician (EMT) certification
  • Ability to work effectively with medical staff, correctional officers, and incarcerated individuals
  • Experience working as an EMT (preferred)
  • Physical ability to stand, walk, lift up to 50 lbs., and handle recurring exertion
  • Pass DHHS background check, pre-employment drug testing, and Utah Department of Corrections screening
  • Availability for 12-hour rotating shifts, including nights, weekends, and holidays

Emergency Medical Technician


Are you an Emergency Medical Technician (EMT) that has that ability to work effectively with medical staff, officers, and individuals who are incarcerated at the Utah State Correctional Facility? The Division of Correctional Health Services is seeking to hire a certified Emergency Medical Technician.


Job Responsibilities:
  • Administers medications consistent with CHS policies and procedures.
  • Responds to emergencies provides emergency medical care.
  • Performs physical assessments of patients, and refers patients requiring further evaluation or treatment to a registered nurse, physician or other health care professional.
  • Maintains emergency kits; checks for missing and/or outdated supplies and restocks them as necessary; restocks medical equipment and replenishes first-aid equipment and supplies in treatment area.

    A variety of treatments including, but not limited to, diabetic care, obtaining vital signs, EKG's, blood draws, wound care, and dressing changes.

  • Receives information from referent to determine priority and assess client's needs for services.
  • Ensures that there is an adequate supply of materials available.
  • Prepares and/or processes documents; reviews for accuracy and completeness; updates information and/or evaluates against policy; compares elements for consistency or logical relationships, etc.
  • Orders, receives, inspects, and stores equipment, merchandise, commodities, materials, and/or supplies.

Please note: An offer of employment will be contingent on the applicant successfully passing a DHHS background check and pre-employment drug testing, and a Utah Department of Corrections (UDC) background screening.


Minimum Qualifications:
  • Emergency Medical Technician (EMT) certificate required.
  • Have the ability to work well with medical staff, officers, and individuals who are incarcerated.

Preferred Qualifications:
  • Experience working as an EMT

Schedule:
  • We are currently hiring for both days and nights.
  • Correctional Health Services provides 24-hour coverage, seven days a week, 365 days a year. EMTs work 12-hour shifts, 7 shifts within 2 weeks. Rotating holidays and weekends.
  • Schedules will have a set pattern of shifts that are predictable and repeating.

Additional Information

  • Emergency Medical Technician (EMT) certificate required.
  • Risks which require the use of special safety precautions and/or equipment, e.g., working around operating machines, working with contagious diseases or hazardous chemicals, etc.
  • Work requires physical exertion. May require the ability to stand; walk over rough surfaces; bend, crouch, stoop, stretch, reach, lift moderately heavy items (up to 50 lbs.) in a recurring manner and/or for long periods of time.
