Full Job Description
The University of South Carolina is seeking an Executive Director of Student Health & Medical Director to serve as the physician leader for Student Health Services. This role provides strategic, clinical, and operational oversight to ensure the delivery of high-quality, student-centered healthcare across primary care, women’s health, sports medicine, allergy and immunization, pharmacy, laboratory, and student insurance services. Reporting to the Chief Health Officer & Associate Vice President of Student Health and Well-Being, the Executive Director champions best practices in college health and advances an integrated, comprehensive model of care.

Strategic Leadership & Administration:
• Provide strategic, mission-aligned leadership for Student Health Services, including long-range planning and oversight of budgeting and resource allocation.
• Build strong campus and community partnerships to ensure health services supports student development, academic achievement, and student success.
• Collaborate with Counseling and Psychology Services (CAPS ) to coordinate care delivery.
• Represent Student Health Services on university committees and serve as a key member of the Student Health and Well-Being executive leadership team.
Organizational Management & Quality Improvement:
• Review and monitor policies, procedures and services to determine outcomes, promote continuity of care and ensure programs and services reflect a multi-disciplinary approach.
• Lead multidisciplinary teams and committees; supervise senior leaders and develop staff.
• Oversee and maintain a strong quality improvement program to include outcomes monitoring, accreditation standards, and site-visit readiness.
Clinical Oversight & Medical Direction:
• Provide direct clinical care; supervise and mentor medical staff; ensure integration and coordination of services in a safe environment.
• Oversee peer review, continuing education, credentialing, and privileging for medical staff.
• Promote evidence-based practices, wellness initiatives, and prevention strategies with Healthy Carolina and Campus Recreation.
Crisis & Emergency Response:
• Serve as the university’s public health authority and advisor in collaboration with the Chief Health Officer and Emergency Management Team.
• Advise on emergency preparedness, risk management, and response protocols.
• Develop procedures for critical incidents and support faculty, staff, and students through those incidents.
Knowledge/Skills/Abilities
• Knowledge of and commitment to standards associated with College Health.
• Excellent knowledge of principles, methods, and procedures for diagnosis, treatment, and management of adolescent illness, diseases, and prevention strategies.
• Ability to make decisions that are data-informed and reflect best practices.
• Ability to budget and analyze data to ensure efficient operations.
• Ability to deal tactfully, positively, and productively with patients, staff, parents, and university administrators.
• Demonstrated ability to work collaboratively with other professionals to set and achieve goals.
Requirements

• Experience as a medical director or executive leader in college health.
• Board certified Primary care physician
• Proven success in implementing quality initiatives and advancing organizational outcomes.
• Proven record of significant leadership in college health or a similar setting.
• 3+ years of supervisory experience, including oversight of diverse clinical and administrative teams.
• Familiarity with student insurance programs and integrated health service delivery.
• Experience with accreditation processes and quality improvement.
