MOS Code: 68J (Army), 021 (Coast Guard), 866A (Navy)
Education and Experience: A High School Diploma or GED, or higher and two (2) years of medical billing and office support experience.
Licenses and Certificates: None.
Requirements
Under general supervision, provide specialized clerical and accounting activities in support of the clinical billing process at the Public Health Department.
Qualifications
Post charges, payments and adjustments to patient accounts. Involves: Ensure the daily billing of services to appropriate third party payers. Audit, correct and resubmit rejected claims. Apply fund account codes to bills and payments. Post charges, payments and adjustments to patient accounts. Review and interpret medical records to accurately assign and sequence codes. Reconcile records and billing transactions.
Manage patient medical records for the clinics. Involves: Prepare, store and retrieve patient health records. Review medical records for compliance with approved policies. Prepare new patient charts, gather administrative documents and information from paper sources and/or electronic health records. Ensure medical records are assembled in standard order and are accurate and complete. Scan paperwork into the electronic medical records. Ensure files are stored in designated areas according to storage procedures. Safeguard patient records and ensure compliance with HIPAA standards. Respond to requests for patient records according to facility guidelines. Retrieve medical records from offsite chart storage facility as needed.
