This position is located at the SC Department of Behavioral Health and Developmental Disabilities (DBHDD) - Office of Mental Health, Anderson Center Child & Adolescent Clinic, 1 Linwa Boulevard, Anderson, SC 29621.


Under direct supervision, employee will assist Medical Staff in a variety of semi-skilled nursing tasks to include assistance with Prior Authorization, medication refills and obtaining vitals.

Responsibilities for the Medical Assistant Technician II:

Perform duties which include administration and monitoring of medication of patients, calling in prescriptions for patients, recording and monitoring medication usage.

Consult with school nurses, PCPs, families and others regarding medications and patient needs and relays all information to provider.

Will complete in a timely and organized manner, keeping accurate records through the process.

Work closely with the physicians/medical providers rendering services to patients to include escorting them to and from the waiting room, collecting vitals (e.g., pulse, weight, height, blood pressure), completing urine drug screenings as requested, and gives injections as needed.

Follow up on any requests of the physicians/medical providers related to continued treatment which may include prescriptions, sample medications and follow-up appointments.

  • Assist with Prior Authorization Medication Forms. Use the electronic medical record to research medications to verify and fill out forms that assist a client in receiving a medication as required by various payor sources.

  • Documentation of services in clinical record according to Q.A. Standards and agency policy and procedure.

  • Requirements

    • A high school diploma and experience or training within the specific work area.
    Additional Requirements:
    • The ability to bend, stoop, climb, drive from location to location, lift, and file.

    Qualifications

    • Bilingual abilities in English and Spanish (or another language) are a plus.

    Additional Information

    Post hire, employees must have:
    • Be able to pass CPR and Managing Agitation in the Psychiatric Setting (MAPS) Certification.
    • Ability to bend, stoop, climb, drive from location to location, lift and file.
    • Knowledge of the procedures, equipment and techniques used in the position.
    • Knowledge of the federal and state laws regulating procedures, materials and supplies used in the position.
    • Knowledge of medical terminology, anatomy, physiology, or pharmacology as appropriate for the area of employment.
    • Ability to read, write and follow detailed written and oral instructions.
    • Ability to control the distribution of supplies, materials, and equipment and maintain inventory records.
    • Ability to pay attention to detail, maintain high levels of concentration, work under pressure, and meet deadlines.
    • Ability to communicate effectively both orally and in writing.
    • Ability to perform precision tasks requiring good eye/hand coordination.
    • Ability to work effectively with patients, students, and staff members.

    This position could be considered essential, and the employee may be asked to report to work even if the Center is closed in the event of an emergency.
