Base salary range: $51,332 - $66,732
Typical requirements: 1 year specialized experience at GS-8. Master's degree or 2 years graduate study.
Note: Actual salary includes locality pay (15-40%+ depending on location).
This job involves working as a technician in a naval shipyard lab, where you'll design and test mechanical measurement systems, solve technical problems, and ensure accurate calibration for equipment used in the fleet.
You'll support engineers by analyzing data, preparing reports, and communicating findings to teams and customers.

You will serve as a Mechanical Engineering Technician in the Metrology Engineering Section (137.3), Reference Standards Laboratory (RSL) Branch, Mid-Atlantic Regional Calibration Center and Materials Test Laboratory Division, Quality Assurance Office of NORFOLK NAVAL SHIPYARD.
Your resume must demonstrate at least one year of SPECIALIZED experience at or equivalent to the GS-09 grade level or pay band in the Federal service or equivalent experience in the private or public sector.
Specialized experience must demonstrate the following: Experience applying ingenuity and problem-solving techniques to develop and implement new or improved to accomplish objectives.
Experience identifying, analyzing, and resolving operational deficiencies.
Experience aiding engineers within the laboratory by evaluating unclear, incomplete, or conflicting documents and determining appropriate references to ensure accurate testing.
Experience performing mathematical computations and technical calculations required to generate, validate, and analyze test data, ensuring accurate results.
Experience in preparing reports and certificates of calibration in accordance with standards.
Experience communicating technical information both orally and in writing with supervisors, engineers, technicians, and with customers to resolve issues.
