Job Description

Summary

This job involves designing and building custom tools, fixtures, and test equipment for naval aircraft maintenance facilities, while also troubleshooting equipment issues and creating detailed plans for repairs.

It's a hands-on technical role supporting military operations in California.

Full Job Description

You will serve as a MECHANICAL ENGINEERING TECHNICIAN in the FACILITY AND INFRASTRUCTURE MANAGEMENT DEPARTMENT of FLEET READINESS CENTER SOUTHWEST.

Your resume must demonstrate at least one year of specialized experience at or equivalent to the GS-07 grade level or pay band in the Federal service or equivalent experience in the private or public sector.

Specialized experience must demonstrate the following: 1) Applying practical knowledge of the methods and techniques of engineering and construction, application of engineering principles, operations and limitations of engineering systems, processes, structures, machinery/equipment, devices and materials; 2) Testing, evaluating, or developing new or modified engineering systems; 3) Demonstrating knowledge of trouble shooting methods and preventative maintenance procedures for industrial equipment; and 4) Producing 3-D digital computer models and standard drawings using computer aided design and drafting system.

  • You will be responsible for the design and development of jigs, fixtures, special tools, and test equipment to meet the requirements determined by the needs of the requesting shop or facility.
  • You will provide complete drawings and specifications for manufacture, modification, or procurement of the equipment.
  • You will provide technical assistance to the local shop or contracting personnel when requested during manufacture or procurement.
  • You will determine overhaul tolerance and limit of acceptability, and test and inspection procedures for production operations, and prepare correspondence, engineering reports, and directives relative to the overhaul, repair, and testing of the item.
  • You will investigate and report findings and remedial recommendations relative to failure of ground support equipment as directed by the authority in control of the item.
