Job Description

Summary

This job involves working as a mechanical engineer for the Navy's Military Sealift Command, where you'll plan and oversee maintenance, repairs, and upgrades for ships to keep them running smoothly throughout their service life.

You'll conduct inspections, review plans, and coordinate technical work to ensure everything meets safety and operational standards.

Specialized experience must demonstrate the following: Experience applying marine and mechanical engineering principles when gathering data for reports.

Experience utilizing theory, concepts, principles, and practices of the broad field of marine engineering to support or assist in resolving unique or complex issues pertaining to ship design.

Experience developing and reviewing plans, work items and cost estimates for maintenance and repair and ship alteration work for assigned ships.

For the GS-07: Your resume must also demonstrate at least one year of specialized experience at or equivalent to the GS-05 grade level or pay band in the Federal service or equivalent experience in the private or public sector.

Specialized experience must demonstrate the following: Experience assisting with technical aspects of the marine or mechanical engineering discipline projects.

Experience assisting with ship check and scheduling maintenance. Experience supporting field inspections to determine maintanence capabilities.

Experience refers to paid and unpaid experience, including volunteer work done through National Service programs (e.g., professional, philanthropic, religious, spiritual, community, student, social).

Volunteer work helps build critical competencies, knowledge, and skills and can provide valuable training and experience that translates directly to paid employment.

  • You will serve as a Mechanical Engineer in the Military Sealift Command (MSC), Engineering Department (N7), Life Cycle Management Division (N75).
  • You will manage the ships life cycle plan by planning, directing and coordinating the maintenance and repair activities requiring industrial assistance for assigned ships.
  • You will determine, plan, and schedule technical work requirements for availabilities for assigned ships.
  • You will ensure that previous post availability analysis and recommendations are incorporated in current availability planning.
  • You will regularly conduct ship checks to verify the work item technical requirements.
