Requirements

As a Mechanical Engineer Consultant, you will perform advanced consultative mechanical engineering work in support of correctional institutions statewide.

You will serve as an in-house mechanical design expert providing guidance and direction to senior management on the effects of new technology, defining the advantages and disadvantages of mechanical engineering standard materials and practices, and recommending policy and procedural changes.

This will include:


  • Completing design data, specifications, and CADD drawings for construction projects including projects performed for bidding and award to contractors
  • Conducting construction project site surveys, assembling pertinent data, and preparing reports
  • Approving mechanical drawings, specifications, computations, cost estimates, and budget estimates
  • Providing technical advice and interpretation of contract requirements and documents
  • Conducting investigations into mechanical engineering failures and developing innovative problem resolution
  • Assisting facility maintenance managers in solving advanced mechanical engineering field issues

In addition, you will provide mechanical training to maintenance staff on current mechanical equipment, sign and seal engineering design documents as required, and use independent judgment and decision making when assuming leadership for projects.

Work Schedule and Additional Information:

  • Full-time employment, 37.5 hours per week
  • Work hours are 7:30 AM to 3:30 PM, Monday - Friday, with a 30-minute lunch.
  • Telework: You may have the opportunity to work from home (telework) part-time, up to three days per week after the initial 6-month training period.

    During the training period, you must report to the office at 1920 Technology Parkway, Mechanicsburg.

    In order to telework, you must have a securely configured high-speed internet connection and work from an approved location inside Pennsylvania.

    If you are unable to telework, you will have the option to report to the headquarters office in Mechanicsburg, PA. The ability to telework is subject to change at any time.

  • Salary: In some cases, the starting salary may be non-negotiable.
  • Employees with the required certification or license may be eligible to receive a lump sum payment at the time of hire and each time the certification or license is renewed.

Qualifications

QUALIFICATIONS

Minimum Experience and Training Requirements:

  • Two years as a Mechanical Engineer 2 (Commonwealth job title or equivalent Federal Government job title, as determined by the Office of Administration); or
  • Four years of professional mechanical engineering experience which required work on any structural mechanical system.


Special Requirements:

  • You must be in possession of a Professional Engineer license issued by the Pennsylvania State Registration Board for Professional Engineers, Land Surveyors and Geologists.
  • You must be in possession of a valid driver’s license.

Other Requirements:

  • Successful completion of basic training in Elizabethtown, PA is required.
  • PA residency requirement is currently waived for this title.
  • You must be able to perform essential job functions.

  • You must pass a background investigation and meet Criminal Justice Information Services (CJIS) compliance requirements.
