Full Job Description

You will serve as a MECHANICAL ENGINEER in the CHIEF ENGINEER, ENGINEERING AND PLANNING DEPARTMENT of PORTSMOUTH NAVAL SHIPYARD.

In addition to the Basic Requirements for this position, your resume must also demonstrate at least one year of Specialized experience at or equivalent to the GS-12 grade level or pay band in the Federal service or equivalent experience in the private or public sector.

Specialized experience must demonstrate the following: *Experience working with the full range of temporary systems and services required at a Naval Shipyard.

*Experience performing assigned duties under conditions of stress, pressure and short lead-time situations.

*Experience writing/reviewing job summaries, component unit (CU) phases, and task group instructions (TGI's).

*Experience preparing manhour estimates, status and technical reports, correspondence, schedules, and milestones.

*Experience troubleshooting problems, recommending repairs, replacements, modifications, and operational changes.

  • You will prepare status and technical reports, correspondence, schedules and milestones, oversee and perform shipchecks, perform calculations, troubleshoot problems and recommend repairs, replacements, modifications and operational changes.
  • You will provide oversight and mentoring to other divisional engineers/technicians, oversee training of new personnel, and conduct studies for solutions to temporary systems problems.
  • You will be the Shipyard’s senior specialist on assigned temporary systems and services.
  • You will identify and independently pursue opportunities to develop the Shipyard’s temporary systems and services to support strategic business initiatives and future workload.
