Typical requirements: 1 year specialized experience at GS-11. Advanced degree + significant experience.
Note: Actual salary includes locality pay (15-40%+ depending on location).
This job involves working as a mechanical engineer at a naval shipyard, focusing on managing temporary systems and services for ship maintenance under tight deadlines and high-pressure conditions.
You'll troubleshoot issues, prepare reports and schedules, mentor junior staff, and lead improvements to support shipyard operations.

You will serve as a MECHANICAL ENGINEER in the CHIEF ENGINEER, ENGINEERING AND PLANNING DEPARTMENT of PORTSMOUTH NAVAL SHIPYARD.
In addition to the Basic Requirements for this position, your resume must also demonstrate at least one year of Specialized experience at or equivalent to the GS-12 grade level or pay band in the Federal service or equivalent experience in the private or public sector.
Specialized experience must demonstrate the following: *Experience working with the full range of temporary systems and services required at a Naval Shipyard.
*Experience performing assigned duties under conditions of stress, pressure and short lead-time situations.
*Experience writing/reviewing job summaries, component unit (CU) phases, and task group instructions (TGI's).
*Experience preparing manhour estimates, status and technical reports, correspondence, schedules, and milestones.
*Experience troubleshooting problems, recommending repairs, replacements, modifications, and operational changes.
