Base salary range: $51,332 - $66,732
Typical requirements: 1 year specialized experience at GS-8. Master's degree or 2 years graduate study.
Note: Actual salary includes locality pay (15-40%+ depending on location).
This job involves working as a mechanical engineering technician for the Navy, where you'll plan and perform maintenance, testing, and repairs on ship propulsion systems and related equipment at a land-based site.
You'll also review technical documents, support installations, and help evaluate system performance alongside senior team members.

You will serve as an ENGINEERING TECHNICIAN (MECHANICAL) in the MAJOR TEST PROGRAMS DIVISION within the MAJOR TEST PROGRAMS AND INDUSTRIAL SUPPORT DEPARTMENT of NSWC PHILA DIV.
The Secretary of Defense has ordered a department-wide hiring freeze subject to certain limited exceptions. This position is subject to the DoD hiring freeze.

GS-09: Your resume must demonstrate at least one year of specialized experience equivalent to the next lower grade level (GS-08) in the federal service or equivalent experience in the private or public sector applying a wide range of technical engineering principles to assemble, test, troubleshoot or repair systems or equipment related to ship propulsion and associated auxiliary systems.
GS-07: Your resume must demonstrate at least one year of specialized experience equivalent to the next lower grade level (GS-06) or pay band in the federal service or equivalent experience in the private or public sector applying technical engineering principles to assist in the assembly, testing, troubleshooting or repair systems or equipment related to ship propulsion and associated auxiliary systems.
