Job Description

Summary

This job involves working in a naval warehouse in Bangor, Washington, where you'll receive, store, and distribute supplies and equipment, including hazardous materials, while keeping accurate records and operating heavy machinery.

It's a hands-on role focused on safe and efficient material handling under general supervision.

Full Job Description

You will serve as a Materials Handler at NAVSUP FLT LOGISTICS CNTR PUGET SOUND .

Although a specific length of time and experience is not required for most trade and labor occupations, you must show through experience and training that you possess the quality level of knowledge and skill necessary to perform the duties of the position at the level for which you are applying.

Qualification requirements emphasis is on quality of experience, not necessarily the length of time.

This job has a screen-out element which will be used to determine minimum eligibility for this job.

The Screen-out Element for this position is: I have the ability to perform the full range of tasks working under limited supervision as demonstrated by receiving, handling, segregating, storing, stowing, inventorying, and documenting the movement and storage of supplies, equipment, or materials including Hazardous Materials (HAZMAT), in accordance with prescribed regulations; Assist with performing inspections of incoming shipments to check for damage and compliance with technical requirements; Documenting discrepancies, damage, and technical non-compliance; Reading and preparing shipping documents and labels; Using automated equipment such as bar code wands, or laser scanners, to document the movement of material; Determining proper handling and storage procedures; Utilizing available storage space for means of achieving maximum space utilization, material flow, and proper layout; Operating motor vehicles and material handling equipment as demonstrated through experience.

I work on my own initiative under general supervision subject to occasional inspection.

  • You will receive and stow materials and supplies in designated storage areas, ensuring materials are warehoused in accordance with hazard type, shelf life materials, and segregation requirements.
  • You will complete the physical distribution functions of a warehouse such as: material receiving, storage, issuing, and preservation.
  • You will operate industrial material handling equipment in narrow aisle and constricted spaces and operate general purpose vehicles following appropriate safety precautions.
  • You will post receipt, issue, location and shelf-life transactions to an automated supply database using both entry and barcode reading devices.
  • You will independently operate Material Handling Equipment rated up to 30,000 lbs in performance of this work
  • You will conduct daily safety checks for proper operation of safety features and document any deficiencies for corrective action.
  • You will serve as a senior non-supervisory worker of the facility as needed.
