Experience refers to paid and unpaid experience, including volunteer work done through National Service programs (e.g., Peace Corps, AmeriCorps) and other organizations (e.g., professional, philanthropic, religious, spiritual, community, student, social).

Volunteer work helps build critical competencies, knowledge, and skills and can provide valuable training and experience that translates directly to paid employment.

You will receive credit for all qualifying experience, including volunteer experience.

Physical Effort: The work involves considerable walking, frequent stooping, bending, standing on hard surfaces for extended periods of time, walking and working in tiring or often uncomfortable positions.

The incumbent will be required to push, pull and/or lift materials weighing up to 40 pounds.

Most materials handled weight less than 40 pounds; however, some commodities such as metal bar, pipe/tubing, reels of electrical cable, bales of rags, rolls of herculite, cans of non-skid coating, cases of welding electrodes, etc., often weigh considerably more.

Heavier items are moved by weight handling equipment or with assistance from other workers.

Working Conditions: The incumbent works both indoors and outdoors, in conditions that may be hot, cold, damp, drafty, dusty, dirty or poorly lit.

The incumbent is regularly exposed to the possibility of cuts, scrapes, abrasions, falls and other injuries.

Work may require wearing protective clothing such as hardhats, steel toes shoes, rubber gloves, masks and rubber aprons.

This position requires participation in the Facility Access Program IAW SECNAVINST 5510.30A. The position also requires a Secret security clearance. Major Duties:

  • Passes instructions on to other workers, ensures that needed tools and material are available, sees that all workers have enough work, checks work in progress, and checks completed work for compliance.
  • Answers workers’ questions regarding procedures, policies, written instructions and directions and provides information to supervisor on status and progress of work.
  • Performs inspections and basic testing of material managed under the shelf-life program, and processes the correct transaction updates and labels to either extend the shelf-life of the item or identify it to the correct condition code.
  • Leads and performs duties that include property disposal, storing, issuing, inventory counts and location audits, packing, and shipping of bin, bulk supplies, oversized materials, equipment, and commodities that require special handling.
  • Operates material handling equipment (e.g., forklifts with a lift capacity and warehouse tractors) to move, transfer, and/or transport material.
  • Unloads, stacks, issues, packs, inspects, processes, and marks stock in accordance with standard warehouse procedures.
  • Assumes custodial and property responsibility for stock as it is initially received, checked, assembled, and internally transferred to another area.
  • Performs temporary space planning of stock location within a general storage and assembly plan, makes routine changes in stock location as necessary, and assembles stock according to type and/or designated area.
  • Receives stock from assembly area or directs movement of stock from various warehouses and determines appropriate hold locations for assembling shipping items.
  • Participates in inventories by counting types and quantities of items and resolves discrepancies by checking stock status information in issue requests, receiving and shipping reports, and automated supply systems.
