Summary

This job involves managing the receipt, storage, shipment, and distribution of materials and supplies for ship construction, repairs, and upgrades at a naval base.

Full Job Description

You will serve as a MATERIALS EXPEDITER in the Job Readiness Coordination Division (Code 530), Supply & Logistics Department of PSNS and IMF.

Although a specific length of time and experience is not required for most trade and labor occupations, you must show through experience and training that you possess the quality level of knowledge and skill necessary to perform the duties of the position at the level for which you are applying.

Qualification requirements emphasis is on quality of experience, not necessarily the length of time.

  • You will receive, store, prepare materials for shipment, and issue materials and supplies used in new construction, overhaul and conversion of ships.
  • You will route, control and expedite movement of priority items keeping first line supervision, managers and other material managers informed of material status as well as directing/coordinating the work of assigned employees.
  • You will prepare identification and shipping tags for outgoing materials, document the location and status of material in files and computer databases.
  • You will perform miscellaneous duties such as assembling parts into kits, make listings of items in backlog and their status, physically inventorying units and assemblies, preparing reports, updating various computer systems and maintaining records.
  • You will operate a varied range of material handling equipment and trucks such as jacks, forklifts, side lifts, or light trucks to support material pick-ups from off-station and private contractor deliveries and shipping of material.
