This vacancy is for a WG - 5334-8/10,Marine Machinery Repairer located in the Department of Homeland Security, U.S. Coast Guard, OFFICE OF NAVAL ENGINEERING in WASHINGTON, District of Columbia.

Applicants will be evaluated on their ability to perform the duties of the position rather than the length of experience.

Eligibility will be determined by the relevance, scope, and quality of all experience and training, regardless of where or how acquired.

Applicants will be rated and ranked based on their knowledge of the following job elements: 1. Ability to do the work of the position without more than normal supervision. (SCREENOUT) 2.

Knowledge of Equipment Assembly Installation, Repair, Inc 3. Technical Practices (theoretical, precise, artistic) 4. Ability To Interpret Instructions, Specification, etc.

(includes blueprinting reading) 5. Ability to Use and maintain Tools and Equipment. 6. Knowledge of Materials 7.

You will receive credit for all qualifying experience, including volunteer experience. Major Duties:

You will serve as a Marine Machinery Repairer and be responsible for assisting in installing, repairing, maintaining, adjusting and testing marine vessel equipment..

Typical duties include: Troubleshooting, repairing, overhauling, rebuilding, altering, adjusting, testing and installing all types of gasoline and/or marine diesel combustion engines with mechanical or electronic control/monitoring systems.

Certifying acceptable performance of all conventional or modified marine diesel engines prior to being installed in the vessel or placed in inventory.

Determining the types and extent of repairs needed, work sequence, and the parts, tools, and materials necessary to accomplish the repair with occasional spot checks during process.

Installing and troubleshooting alternator installations, clutches, shafts, propellers, cutlass bearing, stuts, guages, pumps, etc.

Determining extent of repairs required, materials, or parts needed and estimating time required to complete repairs.

Mandatory training is required which must be successfully completed and other training may occur as necessary for success in the position.
