- Must successfully complete eight weeks of SCDC Basic Training upon hire
- Must be certified by the SCDC Training Academy
- Must complete the basic supervisory course
Full Job Description
- Directs and supervises the day-to-day operations and activities of the uniformed staff and inmates.
- Ensures the security and safety of all staff, inmates, and visitors.
- Under minimum supervision and guided by written policies and procedures, allocates officers and other resources to various duty shifts and functional areas.
- Prepares, submits, and monitors reports required by chain of command and policy.
- Conducts inspections of institutional facilities and equipment.
- Trains, develops, instructs, evaluates and counsels subordinates to ensure duty performance is in accordance with state laws and agency policies.
- Inspects all posts where shift employees are deployed.
- Interviews and counsels' inmates to ensure maximum safety and security.
- Serves as Major/responsible authority for inmate discipline.
- Ensures inmates maintain high standards of grooming and cleanliness.
- Serves as on-call official/duty warden on weekends and holiday rotation.
- Other duties as required.
Must successfully complete eight (8) weeks of SCDC Basic Training upon hire.

A high school diploma and relevant supervisory experience. A bachelor’s degree in a related field may substitute for the required supervisory experience.
SCDC Minimum Requirements:
A high school diploma and eight (8) years experience in correctional, security, military, or police work to include four (4) years of supervisory experience.
A degree in criminal justice or a related degree may substitute for supervisory experience year for year (associate and above = 2 year). bachelor's and above = 4 years).
Must be certified by the SCDC Training Academy and successfully complete the basic supervisory course within
