This job involves hands-on maintenance work for the city's wastewater system, such as digging trenches, repairing underground lines, handling equipment, and keeping work areas clean.
It's ideal for someone who is physically fit, enjoys outdoor labor, and has basic experience in maintenance or construction tasks.
The role requires reliability during emergencies and a willingness to follow instructions closely.
Digs and refills trenches and other excavations; cuts asphalt and concrete; maintains lawns. Loads, unloads, lifts and carries tools, equipment and chemicals.
Maintain and repair underground wastewater service lines, cleaning work areas, perform related maintenance duties. Transports materials and personnel to work sites.
Climbs stairs and ladders; bends, stoops, pushes, pulls, lifts and carries up to 75 lbs.; may stand for more than six hours. Requires knowledge of construction equipment, materials and work tasks.
Requires ability to follow oral and written instructions.
Qualifications Work requires the ability to read and understand written instructions, to understand simple processes and the routine operation of machines.
Level of knowledge equivalent to high school or equivalency.One year as a Maintenance Worker.The preferred candidate will possess one year experience of maintenance repair.
Additional Information Valid driver's license requiredWork Hours: Monday - Friday; 7:00 a.m.
- 3:30 p.m.Work Locations: 1316 Ballentine Boulevard, Norfolk, Virginia This is an 'Essential' position which means you may be required to work nights, weekends, rotating shifts, holidays, etc.
