Department of Public Works Division Streets and Bridges is seeking a Maintenance Worker II to perform manual and some semi-skilled labor involving repairs or maintenance in the general construction, repair, and maintenance of city sidewalks, streets, and bridges and other related duties.
The Department of Public Works builds, maintains, and operates the physical facilities that support and enhance the lives of Norfolk’s citizens, businesses, and visitors, including the City’s Storm Water System, Street Network and Waste Management and Recycling Systems.
The Department is comprised of 8 divisions that function collectively to make your commute safe and efficient, your neighborhood more attractive, and the streets and sidewalks clean and well-maintained.
Hiring Salary Range: $40,960 - $47,104
(Additional $5,000 CDL Stipend upon obtaining Commercial Driver’s License)
Repairs concrete, stone or brick areas by removing unsafe curbs, gutters, sidewalks, driveways and roadways, setting forms and grading areas using various equipment and tools while ensuring proper water run-off.
Repairs brick or stone by removing damaged brick, cobblestone, sidewalk or roadway, replacing and relaying masonry or cutting stone with masonry saw, stabilizing the base, estimating materials needed, and finishing work.
Preferred License(s) and/or Certification(s): Must possess Driver’s License. Must provide a copy of Division of Motor Vehicle driving record (obtained within last 30 days) during the interview.
