The Department of Transportation and Public Facilities (DOT&PF), Division of Facilities Services, is looking for a Maintenance Specialist - Bldg/Facility/Const - Journey 1 to help us Keep Alaska Moving!

What you will be doing:
This position works semi-independently to construct, troubleshoot, repair and maintain State facilities within the guidelines of current State statutes and codes in the most efficient and economical manner possible.

Under general direction of the Building Maintenance Foreman, this position installs, maintains, and repairs HVAC and electrical systems and components. Performs preventive maintenance and repairs on all building and airport building systems and components to protect the safety and health of the facility users and maintain the condition of the property. Maintenance and repair of the heating, ventilation and air conditioning systems is a major life-safety specialty of the building maintenance trade. Analyzes system performance and recommends improvement areas to the Foreman.

This position requires occasional field inspections, as well as short-duration travel depending on the scope of the reason for travel.

Who we are looking for:
To be successful in this position, the selected applicant will possess the following core competencies:

  • Electrical: Knowledge of electrical equipment, components, instruments, and systems, including their design, installation, testing, uses, repair, or maintenance.
  • Mechanical: Knowledge of machines and tools, including their designs, installations, uses, repair, and maintenance.
  • Painting: Knowledge of materials, methods, and appropriate tools to apply paint and other protective coating materials on drywall, wood, metal, glass, and other surfaces.
  • Plumbing and Pipefitting: Knowledge of materials, methods, and the appropriate tools to install, maintain, or repair pipelines, pipe systems, and fixtures, including water, air, steam, gas chemicals, or sewage.
  • Problem Solving: Identifies problems; determines accuracy and relevance of information; uses sound judgement to generate and evaluate alternatives, and to make recommendations.

Special Note:

  • Valid Alaska Drivers License
  • Desired but not required; ARFF training, including 40-hour course and medical evaluation and fit test for self-contained breathing apparatus. Training in Managing Wildlife Hazards at Airports, Airport Security Coordinator training, and aircraft radio communication.
  • 1st aid/CPR
