The Department of Conservation & Natural Resources is actively looking to hire a Maintenance Repairman 2 to join the Regional Swing Crew, a vital team responsible for the upkeep and operation of Commonwealth facilities in Park Region 1.

Requirements

This role involves performing skilled journey-level tasks across various trades, including building, mechanical, electrical, plumbing, welding, and masonry, specifically in the construction, maintenance, and repair of facilities and equipment within Park Region 1.

The execution of these tasks necessitates the effective use, careful handling, and upkeep of a diverse range of hand and power tools, motorized machinery, construction equipment, and materials essential for completing the assigned work.

Under the guidance of the maintenance supervisor, the individual will engage with vendors to gather price quotes, assess the costs of supplies and equipment, estimate the labor hours needed for project completion, and prepare necessary documentation for the supervisor's review and approval.

Additionally, this position entails leading semi-skilled laborers and other personnel throughout project execution, ensuring that tasks are completed efficiently and to standard.In the carpentry domain, the individual will employ both hand and power tools to carry out rough and finish carpentry tasks related to the maintenance, renovation, and construction of park facilities.

This includes interpreting blueprints, sketches, and diagrams to guide the work, as well as repairing or installing various elements such as floor coverings, doors, locks, screens, roofs, soffits, fascia, gutters, windows, and decks.

The role also involves planning, designing, and constructing wooden projects, including storage cabinets and shelving units, to meet specific needs.In plumbing, the responsibilities encompass performing repairs, renovations, and new installations within the plumbing infrastructure of all facilities and their support systems.

This includes unblocking drains, fixing leaking faucets, fountains, showers, urinals, and toilets, as well as replacing hot water tanks and installing or repairing sewage and water lines.

The individual will also be tasked with pulling, repairing, and reinstalling submersible water well pumps and lift station pumps, along with draining pipes in preparation for winter conditions.In masonry, the role involves both new construction and maintenance work related to buildings, bridges, foundations, walkways, and walls.

This includes constructing forms for cement work, mixing cement and plaster, and finishing cement using specialized mason's tools.

The individual will pour footers, floors, walls, and bases for signs, as well as lay concrete blocks and stones for various structures, such as walls and fireplaces, ensuring durability and aesthetic appeal.In the mechanical aspect, the individual will carry out preventive maintenance and repairs on various mechanical systems, ensuring that all equipment operates efficiently and safely.

This includes troubleshooting issues, performing routine inspections, and making necessary adjustments or replacements to maintain optimal functionality across all facilities.

Work Schedule and Additional Information:

  • Full-time employment, 37.5 hour work week, 5 days per week
  • Work hours are 7:00 AM to 3:00 PM, with a 30-minute lunch. Work will be required on weekends and holidays as needed.
  • This position will require overnight travel as needed. Swing Crew assists all parks within Region 1.
  • Telework: You will not have the option to telework in this position.
  • Salary: In some cases, the starting salary may be non-negotiable.

Qualifications

QUALIFICATIONS

Minimum Experience and Training Requirements:

  • Two years of experience as a Maintenance Repairman 1 (Commonwealth job title or equivalent Federal Government job title, as determined by the Office of Administration); or
  • Four years of experience in building and plant maintenance work, which has involved at least two of the building, electrical, or mechanical trades; or
  • Any equivalent combination of experience and training that affords the applicant with the Required Knowledges, Skills, and Abilities.


Special Requirement:

  • This position requires possession of a valid Class C Driver's License.
