Summary

This job as a Maintenance Ranger at Edisto Beach State Park involves hands-on upkeep of park facilities, grounds, and equipment, including repairs, cleaning, and landscaping to keep the area safe and welcoming for visitors.

Full Job Description

Rich in Native American history, Edisto Beach on Edisto Island is one of four oceanfront state parks in South Carolina.

Edisto Beach State Park features trails for hiking and biking that provide a wonderful tour of the park. The park’s environmental education center is a “green” building with exhibits that highlight the natural history of Edisto Island and the surrounding ACE Basin.

Job Purpose and Duties:

Under general supervision, assists with overall operation and maintenance of a State Park. Performs diversified duties as governed by general instruction, policies and standard operating procedures of the Department. Performs duties necessary for maintenance and upkeep of state parks to include repair and construction of facilities, operation and repair of motorized equipment, groundskeeping and landscaping activities. Assists with the administration and operation of a state park; and assist park visitors with quality customer service.

1) Performs miscellaneous repairs and park improvements, to include carpentry, masonry, electrical, plumbing, landscaping, janitorial duties and groundskeeping.
2) Performs and directs clean-up and housekeeping activities to ensure the attractiveness, cleanliness and safety of park grounds and facilities.
3) Instruct, supervise and perform routine and preventative maintenance on grounds, buildings and equipment to meet established standards. Maintains a safe work environment.
4) Assists and conducts park administrative duties in accordance with Department policy and procedures. Participates in the planning of long and short-term goals.
5) Manages assigned specific operations to include public use areas, beach accesses and trail system.
6) Repairs and maintains motorized equipment. Performs preventive maintenance on facilities and equipment. Updates maintenance records in a timely manner.
7) Practice and promote teamwork within the work unit/office, throughout the agency and with external agency stakeholders. Represents office as an active member on agency teams assigned throughout the year.

Additional Requirements:

1) Position requires medium to heavy lifting, walking, and standing on uneven terrain, crawling, and working at heights. Exposure to weather conditions, various cleaning agents, and other material used in maintaining park facilities and grounds. Will be required to work nights, weekends, and holidays including overtime as needed. Comfortable using Windows, MS Office, and working with data entry on computers. will be required to clean and maintain cabins, campgrounds, and day use facilities.
2) Ability to read and understand written procedures and directions; have the ability to perform simple accounting and administrative duties as required. Ability to communicate both orally and in writing. Ability to operate a variety of power tools/equipment.
3) Must possess a valid South Carolina Driver's License.

Actual Job Location: Edisto Beach State Park

Full-time, 40 hours per week rotating schedule including weekends and holidays.
