Full Job Description

This is a Direct Hire Authority (DHA) solicitation utilizing the DHA for Domestic and Industrial Base to recruit and appoint qualified candidates to positions in the competitive service.

About the Position: The purpose of this position is to perform a variety of tasks in carpentry, painting, and locksmith trades.

Who May Apply: US Citizens Experience refers to paid and unpaid experience, including volunteer work done through National Service programs (e.g., Peace Corps, AmeriCorps) and other organizations (e.g., professional; philanthropic; religious; spiritual; community; student; social).

You will receive credit for all qualifying experience, including volunteer experience. There is no specific length of training or experience required.

However, you must be able to demonstrate, through experience shown in your written application materials that you possess the sufficient knowledge, skills, and abilities to successfully perform the work of this position without more than normal supervision.

Minimum Qualifications (Screen Out Element): Ability to do the work of a(n) Maintenance Mechanic ~ without more than normal supervision.

Must possess the ability to perform common tasks associated with the disassembly, repair, cleaning, reassembly, and reinstallation of a wide variety of makes and models of locking devices; paint a variety of surfaces using a variety of applications such as stain, lacquer, enamel, etc; and measure and cut materials to the appropriate length and dimensions to install a variety of objects ensuring that they are plumb and level .

I work under close supervision of a work leader or journey-level employee who observes tasks in progress and upon completion to make sure they are properly performed - Failure to meet this Screen out Element will result in an ineligible rating.

PHYSICAL EFFORT: Work requires considerable standing, stooping, and bending.

Work is also done on ladders, scaffolds or rooftops which requires awkward positions while using or holding tools for extended periods. Lifts and carries objects weighing up to 50 pounds.

Physical coordination required in operating vehicles. WORKING CONDITIONS: Works inside and outside.

Inside, is exposed to moderate or high noise levels from operating machinery, sawdust in the air, glue and paint fumes, and hazards associated with woodworking and related power equipment.

Outside, may be exposed to weather conditions and hazards of working on and around scaffolds and ladders. Subject to cuts, falls, bruises, and burns from hand or power tools.

Performs truck-driving duties in all weather conditions. May work in confined areas such as crawl spaces and attics which may be dusty and dirty.

Uses protective devices such as ear plugs, safety glasses, respirators, and gloves. Duties require a good knowledge of driving procedures and regulations.

Driver is exposed to traffic hazards including the possibility of serious accidents. Major Duties:

  • Perform installation, adjustment, troubleshooting, and maintenance on a wide variety of commercially manufactured locking devices.
  • Interpret and apply technical manuals, manufacturer’s diagrams and specifications while repairing and testing locking mechanisms.
  • Paint, lacquer, and varnish a variety of surfaces, in compliance with established practices and standards.
  • Prepare a variety surfaces for painting by removing debris, rust, and corrosion.
  • Construct, alter, and repair wooden and wood substitute items and structures.
  • Interpret and apply building plans, specifications, blueprints, sketches, and other guides or codes.
