Job Description
Summary
This job is for an experienced maintenance mechanic at a women's correctional facility in Michigan, where you'll install, repair, and inspect mechanical and electrical systems, including power plants and security equipment, while also maintaining the grounds.
You'll lead and train inmate crews for hands-on work inside the secure area, with direct contact with inmates for at least half the day.
It's a great fit for someone with practical trade experience who is comfortable in a structured, high-security environment and values veteran-friendly workplaces.
Key Requirements
- High school diploma or equivalent education
- Two years of experience assisting in mechanical or electrical trades for level 8
- Four years of experience, including two years at level 8 equivalent, for E9
- Five years of experience, including one year at E9 equivalent, for level 10
- Vocational training in mechanical or electrical trades can substitute for up to two years of experience
- Ability to work inside secure facility with direct inmate contact at least 50% of the time
- Must pass drug and alcohol testing as a designated position

This is the advanced level maintenance mechanic responsible for installing, maintaining, repairing, and inspecting mechanical equipment and electrical systems, including power plant and security equipment, as well as maintaining grounds in a large physical plant complex. This position also serves as a crew leader and trainer of inmates. This is a drug and alcohol test designated position. WHV is a multi-level women’s correctional facility. This position is located outside of the secure perimeter of the facility. However, the position works most hours inside the secure facility and has direct contact with inmates at least 50% of each day.

Five years of experience assisting skilled trades workers in the mechanical or electrical trades, including one year equivalent to a Maintenance Mechanic E9.
Qualifications
Completion of a recognized program in vocational training for the mechanical or electrical trades may be substituted for two years of experience assisting skilled trades workers.Additional Information
