Full Job Description

The position is primarily and essentially responsible for performing work required or deemed necessary by the administration of the facility. This position is responsible to supervise assigned inmates on work crew in all the maintenance of the facility; installing new equipment along with the preventative maintenance on all the buildings and grounds at the facility; ensuring materials and equipment are in supply and ordered as needed.

Requirements

Education
Educational level typically acquired through completion of high school.

Experience
Five years of experience assisting skilled trades workers in the mechanical or electrical trades, including one year equivalent to a Maintenance Mechanic E9.

Qualifications

Completion of a recognized program in vocational training for the mechanical or electrical trades may be substituted for two years of experience assisting skilled trades workers.

New hires to the MDOC along with previous MDOC employees that are returning after being away from the department for more than two years will complete Non-Custody New Employee Training (NCNET) with either 40 hours or 80 hours of initial in-person training based on their level of offender contact and job classification.

All new employees will complete additional online training to successfully complete their Non-Custody New Employee Training. PLEASE NOTE: Overnight travel may be required for NCNET.
