This job involves performing hands-on maintenance and repairs on buildings, grounds, and equipment at a correctional facility headquarters, while also supervising and training incarcerated workers on these tasks to keep the workplace safe and secure.
A good fit would be someone with practical experience in construction and repairs who is reliable, detail-oriented, and comfortable working in a structured government environment with a team of trainees.

This position supports the objective by providing semi-skilled maintenance, repair, remodeling, alterations and construction of buildings, grounds, facilities and equipment.
This includes performing corrective and preventative maintenance to maintain a safe and secure workplace for staff and incarcerated workers, visitors, contractors and vendors.
This position reports to CI HQ Operations Manager and supports the sub-journey level work performed by incarcerated work crews and assessing their maintenance performance.
Recommends strategies, procedures, goals and objectives and to implement these programs. Ensures that policies, RCW, WAC rules and Department of Corrections policies are enforcing and adhered to.
Frames walls, rafters, and roofs. Hangs, tapes, and prepares interior drywall walls for paint and/or repair.
Completes routine painting for both interior and exterior areas, including existing walls and structures.
Seals and caulks buildings.
Installs and maintains plumbing, as well as light electrical and mechanical fixtures.
Performs preventive and corrective maintenance on roofs, gutters, sidewalks, roads, fencing, gates, and buildings.
Oversees, trains, and assesses the performance of assigned incarcerated workers:
Train and assess the performance of incarcerated workers on all maintenance projects, and provide constructive feedback on their progress and performance.
Educate incarcerated workers on the proper safety, operation, maintenance, and use of tools and equipment; ensure that training documents are completed and maintained in their files.
Prepare written evaluations for incarcerated workers and ensure that their files are updated and current.
Provide transportation for incarcerated workers from Cedar Creek Correction Center to Correctional Industries Headquarters as needed.
Conducts and supervises, trains incarcerated workers in janitorial duties:
Schedules and assigns incarcerated workers to specific tasks, escort to and from work details and inspects areas.
Keeps an inventory of supplies and equipment, prepares reports as requests by supervisor.
Orders supplies and equipment, ensuring that sufficient quantities are maintained to the support daily operations.
Maintains Material Safety sheets for all supplies stocked and used.
Conducts and supervises, trains Incarcerated workers in the maintenance of facility grounds:
Supervises and performs maintenance tasks in the yard and flower beds, which include mowing, weeding, and raking leaves and debris.
May also oversee grounds projects aimed at enhancing the building's appearance, such as digging, loading, and hauling materials.
Responsible for conducting and supervising snow and ice removal during inclement weather.
Conducts and supervises, trains incarcerated workers in the general repair and maintenance of equipment:
Repairs and maintains electric powered janitorial tools and electric or gas-powered lawn equipment such as vacuum cleaners, floor polishers, floor scrubbers, push mowers, riding lawn mowers and edging tools.
High School Graduate, or equivalent.
Valid driver’s license.
And
Two (2) Years of experience of general work experience in building and equipment maintenance, construction or repair.
Or
Two (2) years in building and grounds maintenance experience in a correctional environment supervising incarcerated workers.
Preferred Qualifications:
Knowledge of repair and maintenance of small appliance, small engine, lawn equipment trouble shooting, repair, and maintenance.
1-year supervisory experience.
Special Requirements:
Maintain regular and reliable attendance.
Complete a felony disclosure form prior to employment and submit to a criminal background check.
Successfully complete, within mandated timeframes, employee orientation and all other mandatory annual, in-service and other required training.
Provide physical residential address and home telephone number to the Department of Corrections.
Become familiar and comply with all Department policies and procedures and Collective Bargaining Agreements as applicable.
Submit to drug testing in accordance with Collective Bargaining Agreement and agency policy.

Telework Details
This position may be allocated for telework.
If authorized for the role, work may be performed from your home or another offsite location within the state of Washington using a reliable internet or cellular hotspot service at that time.
Employees are expected to perform assigned duties in a safe manner, to take proper care all state-issued equipment, and maintain confidentiality of all information in possession while working offsite.
Employees will be required to commute to a Department of Corrections facility or field office as business requires, to potentially include components of the onboarding process.
Some offices will have a “drop in” area available, however, a dedicated workspace within a DOC facility will not be provided.
