Job Description

Summary

This machinist role at the Architect of the Capitol involves hands-on work repairing machinery like doors, gates, and mowers, setting up and operating tools such as lathes and grinders, and handling locksmith duties for locks and hardware in library buildings.

Full Job Description

We love our jobs. Do you? Come work with us as a Machinist, located in the esteemed Architect of the Capitol, Library Buildings and Grounds, Tenant Services Division, Projects Branch, Machine Division.

You will be responsible for performing locksmith tasks including the installation, maintenance, and repair of locks, latches, and door hardware.

You will also calibrate and maintain tools and equipment used by other trade shops. You must meet all eligibility and qualification requirements by the closing date of the job announcement.

You must meet the following SCREEN-OUT(S) required for this position Ability to perform Machinist duties and responsibilities without more than normal supervision to include: Independently determining the work procedures, machine tools and attachments to be used, and the sequence of operation to accomplish each job; Creating custom set ups and methods when drawings are incomplete or unclear; and Using hand tools and power tools.

Major Duties:

Tours of Duty: Day Shift: Monday through Friday, 6:00 am to 2:30 pm Evening Shift: Monday through Friday, 1:30 pm to 10:00 pm Duties include, but are not limited to: Troubleshooting and repairing items of equipment and machinery including: overhead door barrels, security gate systems, parking gate arms, loading dock levelers, and other items of equipment.

Performing maintenance on shop machines by oiling, greasing, cleaning, and making minor repairs.

Following work orders, drawings and specifications to set up and operate machining tools including: drill press, grinders, lathes, milling machine, planer, and shaper.

Calibrating and maintaining tools and equipment used by elevator mechanics, plumbers, carpenters, and electricians as needed.

Performing locksmith tasks in the installation, maintenance and repair of locks, latches, and door hardware.

Performing maintenance on components of power rotary lawn mowers, riding mowers, and small tillers.

Sharpening hand and machine tools, such as gardening tools, planers, press cutters, joiners, and scissors.

The incumbent must follow all relevant safety rules, regulations, and standard operating procedures.

Must utilize knowledge of and must comply with all OSHA safety rules and regulations to ensure that work progresses in a safe manner.

Receives training, either on the job or through classroom training, to ensure that all safety practices and equipment are fully utilized.

Must ensure the use of any required Personal Protective Equipment (PPE).
