Full Job Description

The purpose of this job is to perform skilled machinist work fabricating, modifying and repairing specialty equipment. Provides support to water field ops, sewer repair, and Water service worker staff. Maintains 1900 Oak industrial drive building (not cleaning) inside and out year round.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES & RESPONSIBILITIES
The intent of this job description is to provide a representative summary of the major duties and responsibilities performed by employees in this job. Employees may be requested to perform job-related tasks other than those specifically presented in this description.
  • Designs, fabricates and repairs equipment using metal lathes, mills, forges, welders, drill presses, sanders and grinders
  • Writes specifications for special equipment orders and maintains adequate inventory of equipment supplies and materials
  • Performs preventative maintenance on both shop and field equipment. Builds and repairs tools
  • Troubleshoots and maintains minor repairs on plumbing and HVAC; performs building maintenance and carpentry work
  • Assists outside contractors on site with overhead door repairs, HVAC and boiler repairs, elevator maintenance, fire protection system maintenance, electrical and emergency generator maintenance
  • Services portable Hydrant boilers used to thaw frozen hydrants
  • Mows, fertilizes, waters trims shrubs, removes weeds and runs snow plow in the winter on City owned property
  • Makes minor repairs to all equipment, fabrication of truck and equipment accessories, hydraulic hose and air hose repair
  • Reports and track maintenance on facility repairs; tracks annual maintenance performed by contractors
  • Shuttles equipment and fuel to jobsites
  • Trains field staff on hydrant boiler operation to obtain required license
  • Performs related work as required

Requirements

Required Education and Experience
  • High school diploma (or GED equivalent)
--AND--
  • At least three (3) years of experience in the maintenance and repair of equipment, tools, and devices using metal lathes, welding equipment, and like equipment
--OR--
  • Any equivalent combination of training, education, and experience that provides the required skills, knowledge and abilities
Required Licenses or Certifications
  • Boiler Engineer license
  • Commercial Driver’s license (CDL)
  • Welding certification
