This job involves carefully checking machined parts and castings at a naval shipyard to make sure they meet exact specifications from drawings and standards, including verifying dimensions, materials, and cleanliness.
It requires hands-on inspection work using precision tools and following technical documents.
A good fit would be someone with practical experience in manufacturing or quality control who is detail-oriented, works well independently or in a team, and enjoys solving technical problems.
You will serve as a MACHINED PARTS INSPECTOR, in the MECHANICAL SHOP, PRODUCTION RESOURCES DEPARTMENT at the PORTSMOUTH NAVAL SHIPYARD.
Although a specific length of time and experience is not required for most trade and labor occupations, you must show through experience and training that you possess the quality level of knowledge and skill necessary to perform the duties of the position at the level for which you are applying.
Qualification requirements emphasis is on quality of experience, not necessarily the length of time.

The Screen-out Element for this position is: Ability To Do The Work Of The Position Without More Than Normal Supervision Ability to work from technical documentation and drawings to design, manufacture and/or repair new or existing components, fixtures, and tooling through the safe operation of various manufacturing processes and equipment; Ability solving problems and overcoming roadblocks individually and in collaboration with engineering personnel, especially relating to custom tooling design and function or the manufacture; Ability designing and/or manufacturing components from various types of materials, using a range of manufacturing methods; Ability using geometric dimensioning and tolerance (GD&T), blueprint reading, and the use of precision measuring equipment; Ability to demonstrate a capacity for effective oral and written communication, effective work-management with multiple, competing priorities, and a willingness to take on new challenges, both individually and as part of a team.
