This position is located at the Department of Mental Health, Patrick B. Harris Psychiatric Hospital, 130 SC-252, Anderson, SC 29621.

As the Lodge Clerk, you will perform clerical tasks on the lodge according to instructions to enable staff to devote time in caring for the patients. This employee is knowledgeable in age-specific criteria and interventions appropriate for effective and therapeutic interaction with adult psychiatric patients including those who are deaf and have co-occurring disorders.

Responsibilities include but are not limited to:

Assist in the upkeep of bulletin boards. notebooks and electronic/physical documents on a daily basis. Assist in keeping primary nursing board and making assignments of new patients.

Generate monthly BM log and sends to Nurse Manager Ill and ADON. Generates new computerized form(s) as requested and update form(s) per request of Nurse Manager.

Prepare and maintain computerized monthly staff meeting minutes. Generate computerized patient count labels daily. Update daily computerized report sheets.

Assist in the distribution & maintenance of the Kronos exception notebook daily. Check and distribute Interdepartmental mail for the lodge on a daily basis.

Function as a receptionist for the Lodge to include answering the lodge phone(s) & making necessary phone contacts and/or email contacts when requested by the Nurse Manager.

Make appointments with outside providers when applicable according to the transportation calendar. Report appointments to Transportation Department, Nursing Supervisor, and the Nurse Manager.

Make follow up calls to outside providers when necessary regarding outside appointments.

Order forms and office supplies via phone & electronic means weekly & daily as needed. Request patient clothing from Volunteer Services as needed.

Complete documentation and transactions for patient funds on a daily basis. Obtain needed items from post office & canteen per patient request and approval.

Maintain patient's chart by checking and filing lab sheets daily. Handle any other filing from the nurse managers. doctors. and/or social workers.

Check charts for completion upon discharge and carry timely to office of Medical Records. This & maintain charts in correct order and in good repair. Maintain adequate supply of patient ID labels.

  • Inform patients of hearing schedules. Meet with attorneys and introduce patients. Escort patients to hearings and stay near to help families meet and direct into the hearing. Handle any records and updating due to same. Escort patients back to lodge. Assure patient ID label is updated.

  • Requirements


    A high school diploma and two (2) years of clerical experience or an associate's degree in secretarial science or other related field; or three (3) years of clerical experience.

    Additional Requirements
    • Must be able to type at a corrected rate of 35 wpm.

    Qualifications

    • Bilingual abilities in English and Spanish (or another language) are a plus.

    • Have knowledge of filing and compiling reports to include basic knowledge of word & excel.
    • Have knowledge of obtaining & maintaining medical records.
    • Be able to maintain supply inventory.
    • Be self­-motivated and versatile.
    • Be able to sit at computer for extended period of time.
    • Be able to lift up to fifty (50) pounds: stand, walk, reach, pull, stoop, bend and climb at least two (2) or three (3) flights of stairs.
    • Be able to tolerate noise level and circulate in patient areas as needed.
    • Be able to work with repetitive unusual patient behaviors.
