Job Description

Summary

This job involves helping to plan and improve emergency evacuation plans for healthcare facilities in South Carolina, reviewing submissions, updating records, and training staff on safety procedures.

It also includes participating in inspections and being ready to respond during disasters, often on short notice.

Under general supervision of the Emergency Preparedness Coordinator II assists in planning and coordinating emergency preparedness with the Healthcare Quality Emergency Preparedness Coordination Unit.

Reviews and analyzes existing emergency preparedness and evacuation plans; makes recommendations for modifications to improve safety, efficiency, and effectiveness of the plans. Reviews Redcap platform for the submission of initial and revised emergency evacuation plans and analyzes the plans and ensures completeness. Enters updates in the Redcap platform for the demographic changes of licensed facilities as needed.
Assists with training for facility staff as it relates to emergency evacuation plans and participates in the inspection process for the various facilities regulated by Healthcare Quality.

Serves as an expert for emergency coordination for Healthcare Quality, participates in disaster preparedness and response, and is designated an essential employee, subject to duty and/or call on a 24-hour basis during an emergency.

Requirements

State Minimum Requirements: A high school diploma and relevant program experience.

Institutions of Higher Learning must be recognized by the Council for Higher Education Accreditation.

Agency Additional Requirements: Must be able to accommodate round trip for up to 4 hours and distances of up to 400 miles and may require occasional overnight stay.

Subject to duty and/or call on a 24-hour basis during an emergency. Must be able to lift and carry up to 20 pounds to a distance and/or height of up to 20 feet.

Must be able to bend, stoop, and climb as part of the inspection process if needed. Analytical skills and an exceptional attention to detail.

Ability to effectively plan and organize work and complete tasks according to schedules and goals. Ability to communicate effectively. Must have excellent written and oral skills.

Ability to train others. Excellent customer service skills, data entry skills, and cultural competency skills required.

Ability to exercise judgment in interpreting and applying policies and procedures and regulations. Proficient computer and information technology skills.

Any equivalent combination of education and/or experience that demonstrates the required knowledge, skills, and abilities may be considered in meeting the minimum qualifications, subject to approval by the DPH Chief Human Resources Officer, or their delegate

Qualifications

A bachelor's degree in security and protective services, business or emergency management or related field.
