This summer job involves watching over swimmers at pools and beaches in Ramsey County parks, enforcing safety rules, providing first aid during emergencies, and keeping facilities clean and open.
It's a temporary role from mid-June to mid-August, perfect for young adults or high school students who enjoy working outdoors, helping people, and staying active in a team setting.
No prior experience is needed, but you'll need lifeguard certification to start.

Ramsey County Parks and Recreation is hiring lifeguards for Battle Creek Waterworks Aquatic Center and Long Lake Regional Park.
Lifeguards play an interactive role in patrolling our pool and beaches, enforcing rules and regulations, providing first aid, opening/closing facilities, providing light facility maintenance, and preventing and responding to emergencies.
Lifeguards now starting at $21.21 / hour!
The Waterworks season will begin on June 13 – mid August.
The Beach season will begin on June 13 – mid August.
**PLEASE NOTE: The next lifeguard training class will take place on:
Session 1: April 2-4 at Edgewood Pool, New Brighton, MN

Recertification: May, 2026

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS: 1, 2, 3, 4, 5, 6, 7.
Education: Sufficient to perform the duties.
Experience: None.
Substitution: None.
Licensure/Certification: Current certification from a nationally accredited Lifeguard Certification Program (i.e. Red Cross, Ellis and Associates, StarGuard, and/or comparable program.)
Other:
BEACH Lifeguard - Must be at least 18 years of age or older or a high school graduate or equivalent.
WATERWORKS Lifeguard – Must be at least 16 years of age or older.
Preferred Qualifications: Previous lifeguard and customer service experience.
This is an unclassified, at-will temporary position. This position requires an open screening and selection process. There is no exam for this unclassified, at-will, temporary position.
All applicants who meet the minimum qualifications will be forwarded to the department for consideration. Employment isn't guaranteed beyond the end of this assignment.
Definition of Unclassified from the Ramsey County Personnel Act:
Subdivision 1. General. "The appointing authority may discharge employees in the unclassified service with or without cause.
Employees in the unclassified service have no right to a grievance appeal from discharge or other disciplinary action under sections 383A.281 to 383A.301.
An employee in an unclassified position shall not have tenure but shall be entitled to all benefits associated with tenure such as vacation leave, sick leave, health insurance, and other benefits as determined by the county board."
