If so, consider joining the Pennsylvania Insurance Department as a Life and Health Insurance Policy Examiner 1 in the Policy Review Division. This position is responsible for reviewing credit, accident and health, annuity and life insurance policies, and related forms to ensure compliance with requirements. Requirements

In this role, you will review and evaluate complex accident and health, life, and annuity insurance policy filings to ensure compliance with statutory and regulatory requirements, including federal health care provisions.

You will have the opportunity to work closely with actuarial staff and other program areas to identify and resolve filing issues.

Work involves collecting and analyzing supporting information to determine approval or disapproval of policy forms, preparing detailed objection letters when necessary, and maintaining accurate documentation of review decisions.

Effective communication is key as you will be corresponding with insurers, consultants, legal representatives, and the general public to address questions, clarify requirements, and facilitate timely resolution of filing concerns.

Additional responsibilities include:

  • Providing technical guidance on insurance laws and regulations
  • Assisting with developing review tools and internal procedures
  • Contributing to regulatory updates and proposed policy changes
  • Supporting staff developing by helping train new examiners and promoting cross-training to ensure effective policy review operations

Work Schedule and Additional Information:

  • Full-time employment
  • Work hours are 8:00 AM to 4:30 PM, Monday - Friday, with a 60-minute lunch.
  • Telework: You may have the opportunity to work from home (telework) part-time.

    In order to telework, you must have a securely configured high-speed internet connection and work from an approved location inside Pennsylvania.

    If you are unable to telework, you will have the option to report to the headquarters office in Harrisburg. The ability to telework is subject to change at any time.

  • Salary: Selected candidates who are new to employment with the Commonwealth of Pennsylvania will begin employment at the starting annual salary of $51,971.00 (before taxes).

Qualifications

QUALIFICATIONS

Minimum Experience and Training Requirements:

  • One year as a Financial Management Trainee, or an Administration and Management Trainee (Commonwealth job title or equivalent Federal Government job title, as determined by the Office of Administration) or in any other Trainee class which is Management related that involved insurance policy examination work, including at least six months in the life and health insurance area; or
  • Three years of experience in life and/or accident and health insurance sales or underwriting, or in drafting or reviewing and examining life and/or accident and health insurance policies and forms, or in a closely-related area; and satisfactory completion of two years of business school or college; or
  • Any equivalent combination of experience and training which included at least one year of experience in life and/or accident and health insurance sales or underwriting, or in drafting or reviewing and examining life and/or accident and health insurance policies and forms; or
  • Designation as a Chartered Life Underwriter.
