We are seeking an Licensed Psycho-Educational Specialist (LPES) who is motivated to help individuals and families navigate life's challenges and achieve long-term wellness.

Under the general supervision of the Team Lead, the LPES will complete review of referrals submitted for OIDD Eligibility. Eligibility determination consists of completing/conducting Autism Spectrum Disorder screenings/assessments, diagnostic and cognitive assessments, record reviews, and staffing of cases that are diagnostically complex or challenging.
  • Conducts comprehensive assessments of individuals seeking Autism Spectrum Disorder eligibility (all ages).
  • Conducts record reviews, re-evaluation assessments, appeals, and emergent/crisis evaluations of individuals seeking Autism Spectrum Disorder eligibility.
  • Proactively researches and engages in educational opportunities and skill-building activities to foster personal and professional growth.
  • Participates as a team member and provides back-up assistance to other staff/teams. Day travel may be required for inter-division support.
  • Completes other duties as assigned.

The South Carolina Department of Behavioral Health and Developmental Disabilities (BHDD), Office of Intellectual and Developmental Disabilities (OIDD) plans, develops, coordinates, and funds services for South Carolinians with the severe, lifelong disabilities of:

  • intellectual disability and related disabilities
  • autism spectrum disorder
  • traumatic brain injury
  • spinal cord injury and similar disability

This position is located at Whitten Regional Center, in Clinton, SC.

Requirements

Licensed Psychologist (Ph.D or Psy.D), Developmental Pediatrician, or Licensed Psycho-Educational Specialist (LPES) with at least two (2) years of specialized experience with license to practice in the State of SC or be a LPES as defined by the SC Department of LLR.

Qualifications

Training and experience with various evaluation and screening measures-cognitive, adaptive, Autism Spectrum Disorder (ASD),etc. Current working knowledge/understanding of ASD and specific experience, training, and specialization in ASD services. Effective communication skills, verbal and written, and the ability to work cooperatively with families, professionals, and the public. A valid Drivers License in good standing.

Employment Contingency: Employment is contingent upon our receipt of the following required pre-employment screenings: medical screening – to include a drug screening; background record checks (to include fingerprinting), South Carolina Department of Social Services’ Child Abuse and Neglect Central Registry screening, U.S.

Department of Health and Human Services Office of Inspector General “List of Excluded Individuals/Entities” screening; South Carolina Department of Motor Vehicles Driving Record check; and a review of transcripts verifying educational credentials.

All new employees who are healthcare providers are required to provide documentation of immunity or be immunized against measles, mumps, rubella, pertussis, Varicella and Hepatitis B prior to beginning employment.

State Disaster Plan: In accordance with the State's Disaster Plan, which includes hazardous weather, employees of The South Carolina Department of Behavioral Health and Developmental Disabilities, Office of Intellectual and Developmental Disabilities may be required to work in times of an emergency or disaster.
