The salary amounts represent the minimum and maximum ranges based on years of current agency service plus incentive structures at SCDC. It is important to note that not all individuals may qualify for the highest tier of base pay adjustments and incentives.



Responsible to the Registered Nurse for nursing care provided in a designated correctional clinic or specialized area in compliance with medical plans, policies, and orders for patient care and treatment. Duties include:
  • Conduct health screenings during sick call using approved standing orders or making appropriate MD referrals.
  • Administer and document medication as ordered by the physician in the correctional setting.
  • Document all health care rendered on the medical records.
  • Assist Physician as needed.
  • Transcribe all MD orders from medical records.
  • Transfer medical records with appropriate documentation and medication at time of inmate transfer.
  • Perform clinical treatments & procedures using universal precautions.
  • Maintain 40 hours of in-service education per year to include all mandatory in-services and CPR certification.
  • Provide emergency treatment to inmates and employees.
  • Participate in employee health issues as directed, i.e. TB screening, Hepatitis B injections, flu injections, and post exposure assessment.
  • Collaborate with other correctional professionals to assure social, psychological, and security needs of the inmate are met.
  • Assist in planning and coordination of nursing services required to meet the total health care needs of the patients in a 24 hour/7-day week medical clinic.
  • Collect and process lab specimens for transport to laboratory.
  • Participates in inmate health education.

Majority of the institutions operate on the following shifts:
6:00am - 7:00pm
6:00pm - 7:00am

Shift Differentials:
$3.00 an hour on weekends
$1.25 an hour on nights

For a limited time SCDC is offering LPN's a sign on bonus of $7,500, payable over 2 years.

Requirements

State of South Carolina minimum requirements:
Successful completion of a registered nursing education program for professional nursing or an equivalent course of study from a registered nursing education program per Section 40-33-32 of the South Carolina Nurse Licensure Act.

SCDC Minimum Requirements:
Graduation from an accredited school of nursing.
Must have an active nursing license in the state of South Carolina or qualifying compact state.
Must have Basic Life Support certification or be able to obtain within 30 days of hire.
