Job Description

Summary

This job is for a library technician at a military base library in Fort Hood, Texas, where you'll help patrons check out books and materials, organize shelves, run simple programs like story times, and handle basic library tasks like cataloging and inventory.

It's a hands-on role that involves a lot of customer interaction and some physical work, such as lifting boxes and standing for long periods.

Key Requirements

  • Ability to perform direct public services like registering patrons, charging/discharging materials, processing overdues, and assisting with interlibrary loans
  • Skills in shelving materials, preparing displays, programming activities, answering basic reference questions, and helping locate resources
  • Experience with technical services including basic/copy cataloging, ordering/receiving/processing, and de-acquisitioning library materials
  • Capability to maintain accountability records, perform shelf inventories, and conduct simple maintenance on automated library systems
  • Physical ability to stand for long periods, bend, lift heavy items like boxes of books, and push loaded carts

Full Job Description

This position is located at: Casey Memorial Library. - Fort Hood, Texas. Our library offers a vast collection of over 70,000 items, including books, ebooks, audiobooks, movies, and music.

The library provides modern amenities such as free WiFi, public computers, and scanners.

There is a variety of programs provided for all ages, from children's story-time to book clubs, along with research assistance and interlibrary loan services. Resumes must be two pages (or less).

A qualified candidate must possess the following: One year of specialized experience at the next lower grade Or Two years of education above high school Or A combination of specialized experience and education that equates to 100% of the qualification requirements.

In addition to the above qualifications, candidates who possess the following qualifications will be considered "Highly Preferred" or "Best Qualified": Previous experience with customer service.

  • Provides technician support by performing a wide variety of direct services to the public: registers patrons, charges/discharges materials, processes overdues and reserves, assists with interlibrary loans and reserves.
  • Shelves library materials, prepares displays, programs activities, answers basic reference questions, and assists customers in locating materials.
  • Providing technical services support in a variety of functions: basic/copy cataloging, ordering/receiving/processing and de-acquisitioning of library materials.
  • Assists in maintaining accountability records and in performing shelf inventories. Performs simple maintenance on the library's automated systems.
  • Incumbent may perform physical exertion such as long periods of standing, bending, crouching, stooping, stretching, reaching, pushing of loaded trucks; and recurring lifting of heavy items such as boxes of books or journals.
