DESCRIPTION OF DUTIES/ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS
The Houston Public Library seeks a customer-service driven, creative, and energetic individual who has strong leadership skills, an ability to inspire staff, and a passion for serving as a hands-on and highly engaged manager for TECHLink locations. The successful candidate will work closely with the community to build on the existing partnerships, communicate effectively, provide exceptional customer service, enjoy working with, learning and teaching new and emerging technologies, be at ease multitasking in a fast-paced public service setting and enjoy interacting with people of all ages from diverse backgrounds.

The Library Technology Service Supervisor will:
  • Possess exceptional leadership skills and experience supervising and evaluating assigned staff.
  • Overseeing and coordinating team members to effectively complete tasks.
  • Take the initiative to creatively solve problems and possess sound decision-making skills.
  • Perform training and give assistance to customers using a variety of devices and technologies.
  • Interact with customers to determine how TECHLink might serve their needs.
  • Gather or collect information to generate reports, activity logs, etc.
  • Promote and assist with innovative library services and programming.
  • Assist with configuring and deploying various software, technologies and equipment.
  • Work evening and weekend (Saturday and/or Sunday) hours as needed to ensure adequate coverage for service operations.
  • Perform other duties as assigned.

WORKING CONDITIONS:The position occasionally requires stooping or bending.

Occasional very light lifting, such as three or four reams of papers or books (up to 20 pounds or an equivalent weight) may be required.

There are no major sources of discomfort, i.e., essentially normal office environment with acceptable lighting, temperature and air conditions.

Requires the ability to make coordinated gross motor movements in response to changing external stimuli within moderately demanding tolerances; or the ability to make coordinated eye/hand movements on a patterned response space within low tolerance demands with no real speed requirements.

EDUCATIONAL REQUIREMENTS
Requires a bachelor's degree.

EXPERIENCE REQUIREMENTS
(4) four years of professional experience in library, information services, or education is required.

**SUBSTITUTION: Directly related professional experience in library, education, or management may be substituted for the education requirement on a year for year basis.

Qualifications

  • Proficient computer skills working with both hardware and software.
  • Experience working with people of diverse backgrounds.
  • Ability to communicate effectively orally and in writing.
  • Strong interpersonal skills and the ability to collaborate with others.
  • Experience working with children and families.
  • Valid driver's license.
  • To better serve our diverse communities, fluency in a foreign language is highly preferred.
