Full Job Description

Under immediate supervision, is responsible for performing routine clerical work at the library, to include the proper shelving and sorting of library materials. Working conditions are primarily inside an office environment with occasional exposure to outside working conditions. Exercises no supervision.
This position is an "unclassified" position and has no disciplinary appeal rights to the Municipal Civil Service Commission. This position is likewise subject to at-will employment status and can be terminated at any time for any reason.

Work Location
One of 28 branch library locations.

Work Hours
This position requires a flexible schedule, to include evenings and weekends.

Requirements

Sorts and shelves library resources in either alphabetical or numerical order, occasionally lifting and carrying books or materials weighing up to 25 pounds.

Conducts periodic checks on all shelved materials, making sure items are in proper order. Maintains shelved books to ensure accuracy and proper placement.

Searches for library materials which have been reserved or claimed to be returned by library users. Arranges and straightens library furniture. Packs, unpacks, sorts, and transports library materials.

Performs general clerical duties. Prepares new books and materials for public use. Performs related duties and fulfills responsibilities as required.

Qualifications Completion of tenth grade education as recognized by the Texas Education Agency or a regional accrediting agency.

  • Ability to sort numerically and alphabetically.
  • Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships.

Applicant Information

Unless otherwise stated, applicants are permitted to substitute two years of related full-time experience for one year of higher education or one year of related higher education for two years of experience in order to meet the minimum requirements of the job.

One year of full-time experience is defined as 30 or more hours worked per week for 12 months.

One year of higher education is defined as 30 credit hours completed at an accredited college or university.
