THE POSITION
The Department of Library and Information Services is looking for a Library Building and Security Aid who will be performing duties from monitoring the library and grounds to ensure security, safety, maintenance, and enforce orderly conduct of people.

The current vacancy is in our Support Services Division in the Department of Libraries and Information Services.

IDEAL CANDIDATE
The ideal candidate for the Library Building and Security Aide must be flexible, reliable, demonstrate good problem solving skills, excellent verbal communication, and boundless energy, as well as a strong work ethic.

Provides general assistance to Library staff in matters relating to building security, safety, and maintenance; Conducts foot patrol of Library building, grounds, and parking lot; Observes and assists people as appropriate; Issues verbal warnings and enforces Library rules and regulations regarding inappropriate behavior, such as creation of disturbance, loitering, harassment of staff or patrons, drinking, or drunkenness, smoking and eating in the building, panhandling, etc.; Escorts disruptive individuals from building; Enforces parking lot rules and regulations; Reports illegal or unusually suspicious behavior to the Police Department; Prepares and submits written logs and incident reports; Inspects the building and grounds for hazardous, unsafe, or unsightly conditions, and takes corrective actions; Coordinates/performs building maintenance and housekeeping activities; Sets up facilities for public meetings and provides liaison with organizations using facilities, and enforces rules for their use; and Assists in clearing the building of patrons and sets security system at closing time; may be expected to coordinate emergency procedures; and performs related duties as assigned.

    Probationary work period is six months.

    Additional Information

    A Library Building and Security Aide may be required to work evenings and weekends and may be assigned to any library facility as needed.

    Some assignments may require a valid California Class C driver's license and ability to comply with the City's Motor Vehicle Safety Policy during the course of employment.

    Proof of satisfactory completion of Penal Code 832 training must be obtained within 6 months of the effective date of appointment.
