The Department of Labor & Industries (L&I) is looking for a Journey-Level IT Application Developer to join our Applications & Data Management (A&DM) team within the Maintenance & Operations (M&O) program.

In this role, you'll help support and enhance technology that serves workers, businesses, and communities across Washington State.


For this position, telework is permitted on occasion dependent upon business needs and supervisor approval. The assigned duty station for this position is Tumwater, Washington.

Requirements

Some of what you’ll do:

As part of an Agile development team, you’ll help design, build, maintain, and improve applications that support agency programs, including the Division of Occupational Safety & Health (DOSH), Safety and Health Assessment & Research for Prevention (SHARP), and Legal Services teams.


Key responsibilities include:

  • Design, develop, test, and maintain enterprise applications used across the agency
  • Collaborate with business partners, analysts, and technical teams to translate needs into effective solutions
  • Lead and supervise a team of 3-5 other application developers
  • Troubleshoot system issues and identify practical, long-term solutions
  • Maintain strong documentation and follow established development standards
  • Participate in Agile ceremonies and contribute to continuous improvement efforts
  • Support the reliability and performance of applications that serve internal staff and the public
  • Communicate technical concepts clearly to both technical and non-technical audiences
  • Help identify opportunities to improve systems, processes, and efficiency

Qualifications

Required:

  • Current L&I employee
  • The ability to take action to learn and grow
  • The ability to take action to meet the needs of others

AND

  • Eight (8) years of professional experience* with all of the following:
    • Developing and enhancing applications using languages and tools such as Visual Studio, C#, VB.Net, ASP.Net, HTML, CSS, JavaScript XML, JQuery, MWM or MVC, WPF, ADO, WCF, JSON
    • Writing and accessing database code using T-SQL, stored procedures, and Entity Framework
    • Performing unit testing
    • Applying development standards in a managed environment


*NOTE: Education may substitute year for year for experience up to four (4) years for a Bachelor’s degree and up to two (2) years for an associate’s degree in Computer Science, Computer Programming, or a closely aligned field.


Desired:

  • 1 year of experience within an agile scrum team
  • Supervisory or lead experience
