Job Description

Summary

This job involves leading a team of lifeguards at military pools, ensuring swimmer safety through constant monitoring, rescues, and first aid, while also handling pool maintenance and basic training sessions.

Key Requirements

  • Current Lifeguarding and First Aid certification from American Red Cross or equivalent (e.g., Star Guard, YMCA, ELLIS)
  • CPR for the Professional Rescuer/AED certification from American Red Cross or American Heart Association equivalent
  • One or more instructor authorizations, such as American Red Cross Lifeguard Instructor (LGTI), Water Safety Instructor (WSI), Aquatic Exercise Association (AEA), or Adapted Aquatic Instructor
  • Oxygen Administration certification (if applicable) obtained within two weeks of starting
  • Ability to maintain all certifications current through timely recertification
  • Experience in pool operations, including water testing, chemistry balance, and filtration system maintenance
  • Leadership skills to direct and assign work to other lifeguards

Full Job Description

This position is located at the Aquatics Facilities which are a part of Fort Benning Family and Morale, Welfare & Recreation (MWR). Incentives and Bonuses Incentives will not be paid.

A qualified candidate must possess the following: Possesses and maintains the following certifications: Lifeguarding and First Aid (American Red Cross or nationally recognized equivalent i.e.

Star Guard, YMCA, or ELLIS); American Red Cross "Cardio-Pulmonary Resuscitation for the Professional; CPR for the Professional Rescuer/AED or equivalent (American Heart Association CPR/AED and First Aid); For Water Parks upgrade the certification to: (Waterpark Lifeguarding and First Aid; CPR/PR/AED) (American Red Cross) Maintains certifications current by recertifying with the American Red Cross Lifeguarding and First Aid, CPR/PR/AED program before the certifications expiration date.

Possesses one or more Instructor rating (see below): American Red Cross Lifeguard Instructor(LGTI) authorization; OR American Red Cross Water Safety Instructor(WSI) authorization; OR Aquatic Exercise Association Instructor authorization(AEA); OR Adapted Aquatic Instructor authorization.

In addition, for facilities that use Oxygen Administration "O2 bottles" the O2 Administration certification (American Red Cross "Oxygen Administration"); OR Installation offered training (i.e.

Fire Dept.) must be obtained within two weeks of reporting for duty. All of the above certifications/authorization must be kept current.

Note: Lifeguard Certifications must be uploaded at the time of application to be considered eligible.

To be evaluated as a qualified candidate, your resume must clearly reflect the knowledge and experience. Major Duties:

  • Serves as the lead lifeguard for indoor and outdoor pools and works under the direction of the Installation Aquatics Program Manager. Performs lifeguarding duties and limited management functions.
  • Ensures the safe operation of the pool, filtration system, water balance, pool chemistry and performs water test. Responsible for pool patrons safety/health in attendance at the assigned aquatics facility.
  • Provides maximum surveillance of pool area and rescues swimmers and administers first aid as required. Attends aquatics and/or safety training as directed. Adheres to the Customer Service standards of the Installation.
  • Keeps accurate records/reports and adequate supplies. Responsible for teaching aquatic swimming and water survival training according to TC 21-21, and assists with Shallow Water Egress Training (SWET or Dunker) if the equipment/program is available.
  • Leads the work of other employees. Passes on to other workers instructions received from the supervisor and starts work. Distributes and balances work- load assuring that each employee has enough work to keep busy.
